Jorge Prado interview – Redsand?
Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jorge Prado is a very proud Spaniard. The young teenager who pushed the king of the sand, Jeffrey Herlings in Assen last year, and showed signs of what to expect in the future, isn’t slow in his progress.
Prado will race the complete MX2 championship in 2017, and with his preparation now in full-swing, we caught up with him, and asked about his coming season.
We caught up with Prado between him doing his school homework, and going swimming for his fitness. No doubt this young kid is doing everything to make sure it’s not just his sport where he achieves success. Well spoken, and a good thinker, it was a pleasure to interview him.
MXlarge: Jorge, can you tell me how long you have been preparing for 2017?
Prado: Two months ago, we started our preparation. We had two weeks doing our physical training, to get a good base. I have been riding a little bit, not too much, but have been doing good training and its’ getting better and better.
MXlarge: I saw you have been riding at Redsand. How has that been for your preparation?
Prado: I was there for like two weeks and the facilities there are really good. They have one GP track, and two other tracks, plus a track for the kids. They have a good hotel close to the track, they have a good gym, and it is a really good place to be for the preparation for the MX2 GP season.
MXLarge: Do you know the races the Red Bull KTM riders will race in the pre-season?
Prado: We will normally do the Italian International championship, and then Qatar. Maybe, it still isn’t sure, but maybe the Redsand race. We do know we will race those Italian races, and we still don’t know about Redsand. I would like to race Redsand, but we still don’t know 100%, hopefully I can race it.
MXlarge: You showed last year, that you have good speed. What are your goals in 2017?
Prado: Last year I actually rode really good in Assen, also the MXoN I did ok, and the SMX I had a good performance. This season I will do the whole MX2 championship and my goal is to be consistent, and not risk too much. Maybe take some podiums and if possible a win, that would be great. I made a podium in Assen, and I think podiums are possible.
MXlarge: How much have you ridden with your KTM team-mate so far?
Prado: I have ridden with Pauls Jonass, Antonio Cairoli, Glenn Coldenhoff, so, yes, I saw my speed was ok, I could compare my speed to them and I actually know more or less. I have good team-mates to compare myself to, so that is great.
MXlarge: Jeffrey Herlings moves up to the MXGP class in 2017. What do you expect him to do?
Prado: Of course, Jeffrey is really fast and one of my idols, and he will do great. He is a great rider and he knows how to give everything in race and he will make good races. I saw Tony Cairoli and he is pretty fast and he impressed everyone when he rode in Ital. He will be a guy for the title.
MXlarge: Did you watch the opening round of the AMA Supercross, and if yes, how did you like it?
Prado: I watched it, and it was one of the best races. Great battles and I really liked it. My friend Shane won the 250 race and in the 450 it was Ken Roczen. I like how he rides the bike, and he is also one of my idols. I was watching and thinking how much I want to race that race, so maybe in the future I can do that.
