Jonass wins MX2 Qualifier
Under perfect racing conditions, it was Red Bull KTM Factory rider Pauls Jonass who took victory in the MX2 qualification race this evening in Argentina. The Latvian looked like he was back to his Qatar form as he dominated, taking the lead early and just walking away with the moto.
“I got a decent start and Jorge was just ahead of me,” Jonass said. “I like this track and I am looking forward to tomorrow. I hope I can get the same sort of start tomorrow.”
Second was his KTM team-mate Jorge Prado, and third American youngster Darian Sanayei. The ride by Sanayei was impressive, coming from around 10th place to move into third and nearly catch Prado in second. No doubt the American styled circuit giving him a good feeling.
Prado took the lead early from Jonass, with Lieber in third place. Also in the mix were Covington, Vlaanderen, Cervellin, Seewer, Sanayei, Lawrence and Van Doninck in 10th.
Jonass was quickly into the lead, and Lieber also got past Prado. Covington was doing his best to hang with the top three guys.
After one lap, it was Jonass, Lieber, Prado, Covington, Seewer, Vlaanderen, Sanayei, Van Doninck, Lawrence and Olsen.
Olsen gets past both Lawrence, Vlaanderen and Van Doninck, moving into 7th place, but then went down and lost the places back.
Up front Jonass was gone, and after four laps its Jonass with a five second lead over Prado, then came Seewer, Lieber lost some places and was back in fourth, Covington fifth, then fellow American Sanayei, Van Doninck, Vlaanderen, Lawrence and Brylyakov.
The American riders Sanayei and Covington had worked their way through the pack to be third and fourth after five laps, as Seewer and Lieber both made mistakes and dropped back.
Jonass had extended his lead to nearly six seconds on lap seven, and next came Prado, Sanayei, Covington, Lieber, Van Doninck, Seewer, Brylyakov, Lawrence and Olsen.
Lieber was on the charge and dived under Covington to take fourth place back.
In the end though it was all Jonas, from Prado and Sanayei.
