Dutch Masters meets Zwartecross

The Zwarte Cross Festival is the biggest paid festival in the Netherlands, and the biggest motor event in the world. The 19th edition in 2015 had 197.450 visitors and the 20th edition in 2016 counted in at 220.000 visitors. This weekend for the first time ever, the Dutch Masters of Motocross will appear on the same weekend, at the same venue, giving it massive coverage worldwide. This year they expect 220,000 attendance.

To say this is a big step forward for motocross in not only Holland, but Europe is an understatement.

The festival is a combination of motocross, music, theatre and stunts. ‘Zwarte Cross’ literally means ‘black cross’; it is a reference to the illegal motocross races in the 1960s. The MX1 and MX2 lineups don’t disappoint either, with some of the biggest names in the sport being involved.

Leading the way is local hero and three times world MX2 champion Jeffrey Herlings, and included in the field are Gautier Paulin, Romain Febvre, Evgeny Bobryshev, Shaun Simpson, Max Anstie, Max Nagl, Arnaud Tonus, Arminas Jasikonis, Kevin Strijbos, and Ken De Dycker. Jeremy Seewer, Thomas Covington, Thomas Olsen, and Brian Bogers lead the MX2 entries.

For the purists, three young men named Liam Everts (85cc), Greg Smets (MX1) and Zach Pichon (MX2) will also line-up. The children of the three motocross legends.
