MXlarge interview - Ken De Dycker

Interview Thursday 04th June 2009 By Geoff Meyer

Teka Suzuki rider Ken De Dycker is working hard to recover from some injuries this year. The big Belgian sits nicely in the MX1 championship points as the series reaches it's half-way mark. We thought it might be a good idea to ask him what is happening and when we will see him back on the top of the GP podium.

Q: Ken, what did you do to yourself in Spain. These injuries you are carrying, how did they happen.

De Dycker: It's okay, I can still ride the bike and i am lucky it didn't get worse. First I crashed with Leok and the clutch lever broke off, and I wanted to keep on riding, but then my front wheel got into a rut and I went off pretty hard. I damaged the collarbone the three muscles in the collarbone, one is broken and one is swollen. I also injured my hand.

Q: Riders keep getting injured. You haven't really been that fit all year have you?

De Dycker: Looks like everyone is more pumped up, and everyone is getting hurt from it. I just know from myself that at the start of the year I had injuries with my back and always riding with pain. For me until now I took everything I could and I am doing the best I could in every moto, only Spain I am disappointed about. Maybe that crash in Spain costs me the championship, I hope not.

Q: Cairoli keeps fighting hard and remains the guy to beat doesn't he.

De Dycker: Yes, he is the guy to beat, he has been there every moto and he is fighting in every moto. He has good luck on his side, because if you see how he is passing some guys, they crash and he doesn't.

Q: You also like to bang bars though. You and Josh seem to find eachother a lot on the circuit. In Portugal what happened there when you came together?

De Dycker: I don't have a problem with banging bars. In Portugal I passed him (Coppins), but I didn't hit him, two laps before I came there and he saw my front wheel, but two laps to go in the moto I just wasn't going to stop, I was coming through.

Q: When will you be 100% fit?

De Dycker: I think I will be at my best in three weeks, because we have three Grand Prix in a row and there you can gain or lose a lot of points. So for Germany, Latvia and Sweden I want to be really strong.
