Gautier Paulin - What is his destiny in 09

Gautier Paulin is still a contender - Geoff Meyer image

Interview Thursday 09th July 2009 By Geoff Meyer

Frenchman Gautier Paulin is very much one of three men who can win this year’s World MX2 Championship. Riding for the Bud Racing Kawasaki team Paulin has had a consistent season, with a mix of moto wins and poor starts

He always comes back and despite not looking that fast in the last two months he is only 13 points behind series leader Marvin Musquin. With Musquins present legal situation we might see Paulin and Red Bull KTM rider Rui Goncalves move even closer or pass Musquin at the next round in Lommel, Belgium.

Paulin is the total professional and working with former World Motocross Champion Jacky Vimond he is working hard on his condition and preparation for each Grand Prix. Always an open talker we got hold of Paulin in Sweden last weekend.

MXlarge: Gautier, you look stronger in Sweden than you have in the previous races. What happened there?

Paulin: I feel good, I felt good on this track, but I had a big crash in the first moto and I had trouble getting back on my bike, my head was spinning and it was a really big crash. It was on a big sand corner and I took the corner and caught the rut, and went over the handlebars. I was going pretty fast in third gear. Once I got going again I felt okay, better and better, then I came back on Guarneri and passed him on the last lap.

MXlarge: Because of the problems for Marvin in Sweden you have once again moved close to the red plate.

Paulin: I am really happy for the championship, the points are really close now, and it’s good for the championship. I was working hard even when he (Musquin) was leading the championship before, now I am just behind him in the championship and I am still working hard for the title. I know Goncalves is really fast and Marvin is really fast, I just do my same goal, we see at the end of the season.

MXlarge: What is your opinion on Marvins problems?

Paulin: This is his problem, he is 20 years old, he knows what decision he has to take and he took the wrong one. For me it’s his problem, he is really fast and strong, and for me he is a danger for the championship. I know Rui will be strong in Lommel and Lierop, but I am working hard in Belgium and I will also be ready for a good result on those circuits.
