Jeremy Van Horebeek - A Season of Highs and Lows
Interview Thursday 16th July 2009 By Geoff Meyer
With 165pts he is 15pts behind Roelants for a top ten finish, and nine points ahead of German rider Marcus Schiffer, so the pressure is on to make results, otherwise he might just lost more places.
With the Grand Prix of Lommel coming up the KTM rider does have the chance to race at home, and that will hopefully give him some confidence.
Q: It's been a while since you have looked good at the Grand Prix's. Spain was just perfect, but since it's been difficult hasn't it?
Van Horebeek: Spain was like unbelievable, still now. Stefan told me that first Grand Prix win you never forget. Whenever I think about it I get goose bumps. After Spain I told myself top five each week would be good, but you know, I have been having problems getting out of the start. I still have problems with my back and shoulder from Germany.
Q: You often hear about riders having a low in their career after having a high, at least early in their career. Did you expect this?
Van Horebeek: Nobody told me that, but I feel it, and it's really bad now. Everybody is doing everything possible for me, but it's just not going well. In my head it isn't good. I have had so many Grand Prix's. I felt good in the morning on Saturday in Sweden, told myself to take it easy and try and get out of the hole, but then I crashed on the first lap in Sweden.
Q: Sweden you seem to always go good, but this year just didn't happen for you did it?
Van Horebeek: I mean in my first year in the GP's I finished fifth in my first heat in Sweden, which was a big result for me back then; I was just 17 years old. I just wished I could have done better. I haven't been in the first 20 in the gate for about a month. If I don't make mistakes I will be okay.
Q: What about the FIM Red Bull Motocross of Nations, you obviously want to ride again for Belgium, are you in the team yet?
Van Horebeek: I rode it two years now; I don't know what will happen. I didn't have my best season ever, but I showed I can win a Grand Prix, but I want to be in. Even if I am not selected I will go there and support my country. I think I am 51% in the team, which is my opinion. I think for sure Ken De Dycker and Clement Desalle will go, but they need an MX2 rider. You know, I don't know, let’s see, I think we know in a few weeks, maybe in Lommel. I want to go for a podium with the team and that would be a great end to the season.
