Tyla Rattray - Back To Win MXoN

Tyla Rattray in action in USA

Interview Thursday 20th August 2009 By Geoff Meyer

World MX2 Champion Tyla Rattray will be looking to make a strong comeback in the last three AMA National races with his end goal on winning the MX2 class at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations. Here is a cool interview with Rattray.

Q: Tyla, how have you found your first year in America?

Rattray: Well I got here in January and was just trying to settle down and get everything sorted here. I had also been riding some sx since the first national was only the 23rd of May so it was fun doing a little bit of sx riding. Of course the racing here is really good but I have been taking some time to get used to the tracks as we only have two short 15 minute practices and then its straight into the races but it’s been fun and iv been enjoying it. I was 3rd in the points before I got hurt which is not bad but not really where I wanted to be, I was hoping to build on that as the year went on but then I broke my thumb.

Q: What has been the difference from USA and Europe?

Rattray: Well I will tell you the biggest thing! In California it does not rain! I don’t even know the last time I saw rain here, think it was February. It is also cool for me that everyone speaks English and I understand everyone from the west coast to the east coast. It’s been a lot of fun.

Q: Motocross of Nations, you coming?

Rattray: Yeah of course! I love that race it is the best race of the year, the fans are awesome at that race at will be nice to see everyone from the GP's again. The only difficult part is the S.A federation don't have any budget to help for that race so I have cover all my own costs so I'm busy speaking to sponsors to try and get some funds raised.

Q: Pourcel in 2009 or Pourcel in 2007, what’s the difference?

Rattray: Pourcel is Pourcel, there’s no difference really, he has been so strong this year, for him to come back from his injury like he did and win a sx championship and now racing for the outdoor championship I’m happy for him and hope he gets the outdoor title also, he is a lot of fun to have as a team mate and we hang out a bit which is cool.

Q: Tell me about your book?

Rattray: Well it’s a book that was made from my year last season winning the 2008 world championship so you need to check it out its sick, Katja Ebert put it all together and did an awesome job. With all my injuries I’ve had in previous years it took me a bit long to finally get that title so it’s a really nice memory to have. In the book I speak about each gp and how everything went for that day, I speak about my rivals, the team, mxon and it’s full of action pictures and behind the scene pics like my championship celebration parties and more.

Q: MX2 overall at the MXoN. Tyla Rattray on top of the box?

Rattray: That’s my plan, I’m coming back for these last 3 nationals over here so hopefully I can get a win before the season ends then come out strong to the mxon.
