Interview Tuesday 10th November 2009 By Geoff Meyer

WLM design is a very well known clothing and decal company based in The Netherlands and Belgium. This is a brand that continues to produce some of the best decals and sportswear on the Grand Prix scene and can been seen on many of the leading teams bikes and riders.

In fact take a walk over to the Teka Suzuki team and several other teams in the World Motocross Championship and you will spot their work. We decided to sit down with Wisja Lamers the owners of WLM Design and ask him about his company and what their plans are in the future.

Q: Can you tell me how WLM came about, it's history?

WLM: I started designing mx-shirts and decals with another company in the business in 1998. After working there for 2,5 years I started my own business in 2000, so WLM Design is grounded in 2000 by me en my girlfriend Imka Kooijmans. We have grown to a company with eight employees. We have our main office and production in Mill (NL) and an office in Zonhoven (Belgium).

From these two locations the markets in Europe are served. We produce sportswear and decals, completely to the wishes of the customers. Our clientele are mx-riders and bmx-riders. In a short time WLM Decals-WLM Design has got a big market in motocross in Europe. Cooperation with Team Suzuki Geboers and Team Yamaha De Carli has resulted in 2007 in “the perfect season” with the World Championship of Steve Ramon in the MX1-class and Tony Cairoli in the MX2-class.

Q: Which teams do you support?

WLM: For 2010 the factory lineup is: Team Suzuki MX1 (Ramon / Desalle), Team Suzuki MX2 (Roczen / Tonus), Team Kawasaki CLS MX2 (v.Horebeek / Frossard), Team Suzuki Beursfoon MX1-MX2 (De Reuver, Butron), Team Aprilia Racing Team MX1 (Coppins / Priem / Bill)

Q: What is the most exciting project for WLM in 2009 and for the future?

WLM: Working for the MXoN Team Belgium is the most exciting project we had this year. The MXoN gives a big exposure worldwide. For Team Belgium we make the mx-shirts/decals and also we make the team wear and the complete looks for the Team. We are also involved in the organization for this team and the good cooperation with the other team members and podium did give a very big satisfaction. For 2010 we have the challenge to get Team Belgium in perfect condition to the States. But the biggest issue/project is to keep the amateurs enthusiastic ; that is the foundation of our sport.

Q: Do you have a favorite design you have produced for a rider or team?

WLM: Corona Suzuki 2007 is Wisja’s favorite design (the first championship of WLM / Steve Ramon).

Q: What is the future for WLM?

WLM: We want to stand for the quality and service and our aim is to have a steady growth, similar to what we have now.
