MxLarge Story
James Noble interview - Home Grown
Interview Saturday 19th February 2010 By Geoff Meyer
MXlarge: James, how are you doing?
Noble: I am not too bad, just back from a week in Spain, got the bike setup much better, big inroads on the bike.
MXlarge: Your first year not doing the GP’s. How does that feel?
Noble: It’s good not to have to do them; I was just going down the wrong road really. I got forced into this situation, but actually it’s worked out well. The Red Bull Pro Nationals is pretty good and same goes for the Maxxis. I mean nine rounds of the Red Bull series and then the Maxxis, so it’s full one.
MXlarge: Despite the fact Billy is in Australia, Shaun isn’t doing the Maxxis and Tommy is in America there is a lot of interest in this year’s British scene. The Red Bull Pro- Nationals and Maxxis British Championship both seem like they will be exciting series.
Noble: Defiantly it’s good for the schoolboys a great stepping block for those guys if they want to do the Grand Prix series. It’s a good ground with the Red Bull and Maxxis. We have everything now, the Red Bull thing with the freestyle, the schoolboys; they are getting out to people who don’t know about Motocross. Canada Heights last year was fantastic.
MXlarge: And racing circuits like Foxhills, Hawkstone Park, Farleigh Castle, which will be fun?
Noble: It’s good to have something different; I mean we can’t only race on all these manmade circuits at Road Racing facilities. It is always good to ride Hawkstone Park, Foxhills is a little fast, but you can have close racing and that is what you want isn’t it, that is what the fans want to watch.
MXlarge: Will Stephen Sword and Tom Church have an advantage as the only Brits doing the GP’s?
Noble: I don’t think so, in the British we have Brad, Carl, some good quality riders and we will be pushing each other week in and week out. I mean there are a lot of guys who will want to win in both the Maxxis and the Red Bull; if you have two or three guys pushing each other all the time then it’s going to be good for our speed.
MXlarge: Were you interested in what happened in Mantova?
Noble: Not really, all I did was speak to Shaun and see how he did. I was happy he won, so that was about it really. I am only really interested to see how Shaun does, I won’t watch the GP’s on television or anything like that.
MXlarge: The goal is to win both championships, but do the best I can really. Try and keep a smile on my face and do the best I can. There is pressure in the Maxxis and Red Bull because my sponsors and fans want me to do well, maybe even win. In the Grand Prix because there are so many good riders my results are not expected to be the same. If you are up the front and winning races the sponsors gets good exposure.
MXlarge: Brad Anderson showed with a little hard work and never giving up that a British Championship is possible. Did that motivate you, knowing your speed isn’t that much different from his?
Noble: For sure, I mean Brad deserved it, but our speed has often been similar and I feel I can also do it, but he did show with hard work and determination anyone can do it. I am pumped for this year and I can’t wait to see what is possible.
