MxLarge Story
Brad Anderson interview - Maxxis British Champion leader
Interview Monday 01st March 2010 By Geoff Meyer
It’s not just domestic success he wants, but also some Grand Prix action and he’s also penciled in a round of the AMA Nationals.
MXlarge: Brad thanks for your time. Can you tell me how your first moto went yesterday?
Anderson: In the first moto that Russian got out of the gate pretty good and everyone got caught behind Sword who crashed in the first corner, we all got bundled up, then half way around there were more crashed and I got caught again. I was then pushing hard to come through and slipped over and came off trying too hard. I got up to 7th, which wasn’t too bad because they are only 20 minute races, you don’t have much time to make up ground.
MXlarge: You then improved slightly in the second moto?
Anderson: Second moto I was furious about the first moto and I thought to myself if I can win the last two motos I might be able to come out with a top three spot, I came away and passed Snow and then I passed the Russian, then I passed Swanny. It was really hard to pass, just one line really and I was really happy to pass them.
MXlarge: And finally you got a moto win, and the overall.
Anderson: The third moto I got a terrible start, I was chasing through, and as I mentioned it was just one line where it was dry and really hard to pass. I got up to second and made a mistake and Tom Church came past me then we were battling and I caught Swanepoel, but made a mistake and slipped off, the stalled. I picked it up and finished first.
MXlarge: How did you feel about the weekend?
Anderson: I wasn’t really pleased with the race results, but I am pleased to have the red plate. I felt mega, I felt like I was going to go out there and win to be honest, but I think that is what done me in the first moto. In the first moto I wanted to explode and let a lot of fire out. I was going too mad and making a lot of mistakes. My confidence is sky high, its right up there and you need confidence to put the package together and win. You need to be confident in your bike and yourself.
MXlarge: How did you like the new three race format?
Anderson: The three race format, I’m not sure about. The mechanic and myself didn’t really have enough time we didn’t really have a break. To eat properly or clean the bike, you don’t have time. I mean to wash the bike, check the clutch clean the filter, check the tires, a lot to do and if the bike breaks you goosed. I don’t like the three race format at all.
I mean you wash up, clean yourself off, by the time you get changed you want to watch the MX2 and they are coming off the line, then you need to get yourself sorted and on the line for your next race. It’s a bit of a nightmare. They can’t spread it out; we were packing the van in the dark.
MXlarge: You had a lot of rain in the lead-up to the race, how was the circuit?
Anderson: The conditions were good considering the rain we have had. The second race it dried out a lot and the third race it was bone dry.
MXlarge: So who is going to be your main competition, that Russian looked fast I heard?
Anderson: I think it will still be Swanny. The Russian has something in for me, in the third one he tried to take me down twice, in the end he went down big. He put his footrest on my casing and bent my front brake. I think he has something in for me, so it might be a good battle between me and him. I said to his mechanic, we can all play that game, we all come out on top, I know what I can do.
MXlarge: So what is happening in the next few weeks for you as far as races go?
Anderson: I think so, I just go with the flow me, and I think its Hawkstone this week then Mallory I think.
MXlarge: And looking into the future, later in the year, you mentioned last month wanting to do a National in America?
Anderson: I want to go to Budds Creek for the AMA National. It doesn’t clash with anything and I’ve been offered a bike for that race. It would be good to see how I go there. I am trying to sort it out now and everything is falling into plan, we aren’t messing around. There are a few GP’s I would like to do. Probably the MX3 in England, I want to do as much as I can, keep busy really.
