Interview Friday 19th March 2010 By Geoff Meyer

Bike It Cosworth Yamaha rider Zach Osborne has been riding well so far this year with a victory in the opening round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship and a win in last weekend’s Master MX race in Mallory Park (the venue for this weekend’s second round of the British Championship).

The American racer is confident of doing well in 2010 after injury kept his season from really progressing after he won the Grand Prix of Turkey last year.

We decided to give Zach a call and ask him about last weekend and also about his possible battle with red-hot Ken Roczen in this weekend’s Maxxis British Championship, set for Mallory Park.

MXlarge: Zach, can you tell me about last weekend’s racing?

Osborne: I got second in the first MX1 race and I won both motos of the MX2 by a big margin. I wanted to get there and get a feel for the dirt and get everything on track for this weekend. There were only two or three big jumps in it, it was a lot smaller than the Grand Prix circuit, but it was really rutted and really technical, so it was a nice one and I hope it’s the same this weekend.

MXlarge: Steve (Dixon) was telling me that you beat both the CAS Honda riders Gareth Swanepoel and Evgeny Bobryshev. Where you riding the MX2 bike in the MX1 class?

Osborne: I beat them in MX1, but I rode the MX2 bike in both classes. Right now I feel like I am getting better each time I ride the bike and I feel so fresh and have a good feeling on the bike. I am comfortable on it and I am going to get better and faster.

MXlarge: I guess being a racer you want to win this weekend at Mallory and try and show Roczen you have his speed?

Osborne: For sure, when you put races on the line it’s a race no matter what. As soon as you get out there and you start touching one another. I have to think a little about the season and the British Championship, so I don’t need to take any chances, or beat him. The first Grand Prix is in two weeks and it’s too early to be taking chances. The season can’t be won in the first few weeks, but it can be lost.

MXlarge: Are you interested to check your speed against his?

Osborne: Of course I want to see my speed. I hope the rain holds out, they are calling for rain, and that makes it more of a lottery, but I am prepared for that also. Obviously going into the weekend I want to give it my best. I don’t think I will stomp him in the ground, I don’t expect that at all. I know he has beaten everyone this year, but I plan on giving it a good race, you can’t take anything away from him.

MXlarge: What do you have coming up after Mallory?

Osborne: I will just keep training and keep doing my thing. I will stay a week in England and do some testing and then fly down to Italy and do some riding there and fly to Bulgaria from there.

I rode it last year, the first moto I think I got a sixth or something and the second race I was 13th, I had a terrible start. I am just trying to keep my program going and  keep everything as good as it possibly can be. I don’t want bad starts or bad laps.

MXlarge: Steve also mentioned that if the calendar changes and the FIM World Motocross Championship runs after the FIM World Supercross that you will do both series.

Osborne: For sure, we have spoken about it, and it’s pretty much that we will do that, so I am excited about that, but my main thing right now is to get through the season injury free and have success this year.
