Ken De Dycker interview - Hangtown and Glen Helen
Interview Friday 04th June 2010 By Geoff Meyer
De Dycker is now fifth in the MX1 series points and is looking to make up some ground on fourth placed David Philippaerts who is just 10 points ahead of him.
We caught up with De Dycker after Sunday’s races and asked him about the USGP and also about his appearance at the opening round of the AMA Nationals a week earlier.
Q: Ken, how did you enjoy your trip to Hangtown for the opening round of the AMA Nationals?
De Dycker: It was okay the weather was okay. You don’t have your own things, just a stock bike and just my suspension, that makes it difficult. Also with it just being Saturday it’s just 15 minute moto for practice and it’s difficult to get to know the track. Their speed is fast because the tracks are not difficult, and that makes it difficult to gain places, passing was also not easy because the top 15 are the same speed.
Q: You finished top 10 overall, but were you happy with that?
De Dycker: Maybe I was disappointed because 8-11 isn’t really what I wanted, but if I looked at the speed of my bike going up the hills and in some corners with the standard bike it was difficult. Also the bike wasn’t running well because of the different fuel and stuff. For sure I enjoyed the trip.
Q: But you still had a good time?
De Dycker: I enjoyed the track, it wasn’t that bumpy or hard, that was good. It is different mainly from the fact it’s really fast and not that many ruts, at least compared to the Grand Prix tracks.
Q: You are a long way off Antonio Cairoli in the series points, can you come back?
De Dycker: My championship is already over I think. We still are trying to get the bike running better. For me I am already like 70 points behind Cairoli, so I am already really disappointed.
Q: What about Glen Helen, what did you think when you arrived on the Saturday morning?
De Dycker: I mean I was looking forward to seeing how the track was prepared, because I knew there would be a lot of lines and I was wondering how it would be to pass going up the hills and stuff.
Q: Can you explain your races?
De Dycker: I didn't have a good start in the first moto but I came back strong and had energy to push to the end. Fourth place was the best I could do because I was making fast laps but also some mistakes. In the second moto I could not get rid of the mistakes and made a poor start. There was a bit of rattling from the exhaust so I came into the pits but it seemed it was OK and I went back out. It was hot out there and I am pretty pleased with my performance.
