Interview Monday 21th June 2010 By Geoff Meyer

Red Bull KTM rider Marvin Musquin continued to show amazing speed as he heads towards his second World Motocross Championship. With a big lead in his championship and the possibility of winning the title before the last two rounds (if he continues to build on his massive points lead) there is every chance that Musquin will head to America to race an AMA National.

If Musquin can win before the last two rounds which are Lierop on September 5 and Fermo on September 12 then he would be open to race the last weekend in August at the Southwick circuit. This would be the perfect conditions as the KTM machine is known for his amazing power advantage over the Japanese bikes and it would also set-up a great battle between the two French riders Christophe Pourcel and Musquin.

Another possibility is for Musquin to race the August 14 round of the AMA Nationals at the Unadilla circuit, a circuit that is very much euro style and would give the World Champion a good chance to impress against the mighty AMA regulars.

Southwick though seems more likely as for Musquin to race in Unadilla he would need to have already have won the title, and that would mean having 150 points lead going into the Grand Prix of Brazil on August 22. He would have to then have wrapped up the title in Loket on August 8.

That would mean he would have to score around 17 points more than second placed Ken Roczen in the next four rounds in Latvia, Sweden, Belgium and Czech Republic. That just isn’t going to happen.

We asked Musquin about the chance to race in America and also about the defense of his World MX2 Championship.

MXlarge: Marvin, it’s a while ago now, but did you have time to think about your USGP experience?

Musquin: For the Grand Prix I felt very good, I was happy to be in America and the track was very good, very big and very long, two minutes 30 sec maybe. Also many jumps and the big uphill and downhill sections. The race was good for me and I won. It was a good atmosphere, not too many people at the track, but it’s normal, the American people don’t care about the Grand Prix riders.

MXlarge; The week before you went to the opening round of the AMA Nationals, how did you enjoy that?

Musquin: Hangtown the track was good and I saw Pourcel and Tomac and it looks fast. Really easy organization and many people there.

MXlarge: Are you fast enough to run with Pourcel?

Musquin: Next year Pourcel will be in the 450cc class, but this year maybe I like to do a National. I have a really good bike with KTM and I think I can take a really good start, and in Hangtown the riders were fast, but I think I am fast enough (to run with them). We don’t know yet which National, we see with KTM and look at the calendar.

MXlarge: How was your French Grand Prix? It must have been very special for you?

Musquin: Really nice it was amazing. Last year was also good, but now I am World Champion and the people that were there, it was great, I was really happy to be there in France with the red plate and the number one plate. It was the best weekend for me.

MXlarge: You have a big lead in the World MX2 Championship, but you still want to win races it seems?

Musquin: I have a lot of points lead, and for sure it’s big, but I need to stay focused and I try my best every race. I want to win if it is possible, but we see what I do.
