Brad Anderson interview - MXoN Selection and Australia

Interview Monday 09th August 2010 By Geoff Meyer

British rider Brad Anderson of the PAR Honda team hasn’t been having the same season he did in 2009. A year ago he was the man in the Maxxis British Championship, although this year he has taken a back seat to CAS Honda rider Evgeny Bobryshev.

Anderson is looking for a place on the British Motocross of Nations team and rode the Grand Prix of Limburg a little over a week ago. At that GP the British champion showed great speed early, although crashes cost him a top ten result.

We caught up with Anderson and asked him about the British Motocross of Nations team and also the possibility of him racing in Australia in 2011.

MXLarge: Brad, so why did you go to Lommel? Was it to show your speed to Steve Dixon for possible MXoN selection?

Anderson: I went to Lommel to try and get a good result and see if I had the speed of the GP boys, I don’t know what is happening with Wilson at the moment, is he riding for Canada or for UK. He is fast and he’s a good kid, so now we wait and see who will be in. We just have to wait and see who is picked so we can get organized. Hopefully it won’t be a one, two, three KTM, but it looks a bit….

MXlarge: I imaging you would be pretty upset if you are not picked, just like the other guys would be?

Anderson: Last year I got the shout to be in the team, but I broke my thumb and didn’t race, I want to get picked this year and prove to everyone that I have the speed. I want to be up there for England. I was talking to Steve Dixon and I told him I am getting older and these guys are up and coming, this might be my last chance, so give me a go. I have to prove my point. I will be really disappointed if I am not picked.

MXlarge: What is going on in the Maxxis this year, you are not riding like last year?

Anderson: This year my speed is there, but I am struggling with the British Championships because of the shorter motos. I am a strong rider and I come on at the end of the long motos. If I get a bad start in the Maxxis I can’t come through because it’s only 20 minutes. I’ve had some good battled with Bobryshev, I mean he puts them in but if you keep pressuring him he doesn’t like that.

MXlarge: Obviously Bobryshev has been really fast in the Grand Prix series. Did you expect to run with him in Lommel?

Anderson: He has been yes, I mean if I can stop with him at the British I expected to have his speed at the GP’s. I know he is good in the sand, a bit like De Dycker, a big strong lad.

MXlarge: What about your trip to Australia. Winning the round you attended made you look good. Any interest in going back there?

Anderson: I went out there, I mean they asked me to go out there last year, but I didn’t have the balls to go out. Then Billy got the shout to go out there and I said to Billy, you go and try it out and see if you like it. He tried it and liked it and then I was asked to go. I went out there and I really liked it, the people are friendly and helpful. I got a Honda out there and I went out and won all three.

MXlarge: How was the Aussie scene compared to the Maxxis?

Anderson: I think the Aussie scene is picking up more, more riders from all over the World going to Aussie, I think that is where the money is at the moment. I am in talks in the moment, but it has to be worthwhile, this is my job so I need to do well out of it. I need the pennies. If I have to go over there I go over there. Who knows maybe I go and live over there.

MXlarge: Having talked to Billy I get the impression that it’s a nice lifestyle for him.

Anderson: Over there they have eight races, while with the British, World, Red Bull, and many other races we have a lot more races. Billy is chilling out over there, which is the kind of guy he is, he’s living his life over there.
