Interview Thursday 30th September 2010 By Geoff Meyer

Trey Canard was coming off a very successful AMA Lite Championship when he was picked for the American team at the Motocross of Nations. The red headed kid just had to be on the team and his performance while not what he might have hoped was good enough to help his team come through and win the event.
A truly nice guy and somebody the whole World should be proud of we just had to sit down with him and ask him about his first ever International event.
MXlarge: Trey, first congratulation and well done. How did you find the weekend? Your results were not maybe as good as he hoped, but you got the victory.
Canard: It’s a team event, I wanted to do well, but at the end of the day it’s a team thing. I had some unfortunate first corner crashes and that was a bummer, but it’s nobody fault. The main this is we came out and got the cup again and I am thankful for that, it’s awesome.
MXlarge: That last moto when Andrew and Ryan came around in first and second and the crowd on the side of the hill started screaming, how was that for you?
Canard: Man, we were going nuts ourselves. It looked pretty scary going into that last moto and we knew we had to get it done. Andrew was awesome, I mean we expected Dungey to do what he did, but Andrew came through for sure, and he rode awesome. Andrew also rode well considering he rode back to back motos, I noticed how tough that was myself.
MXlarge: How were you with nerves?
Canard: Saturday in the qualification race I was really nervous, but Sunday it was really good. I knew I just had to do my best, which was all I could.
MXlarge: And when you got caught up with Zach Osborne in that first corner crash?
Canard: I was surprisingly calm, which was kind of surprising. Zach and I were stuck in this awkward way and I knew if we didn’t get out of there it would have been trouble. We worked it out together and got going. My grip was in his chain and sprocket and he kept trying to lift his bike up and I told him to stop and let’s get this thing out of there.
MXlarge: There was talk of some riders changing gate spots on the start line in that race, can you explain what you saw?
Canard: I stayed in the same spot, Roczen took somebody else’s gate, which I believe it okay.
MXlarge: How would you describe your first ever major International race?
Canard: It was fun, it was exciting. I hope I get opportunities in the future to be able to do this again. It was very difficult on the 250 against the 450’s. I heard a lot about these guys (FIM World Championship riders) and it’s really an honor to race against the best riders in the World.
MXlarge: It has been said before, but this Team USA had special riders. You guys are a credit to your sport, are you proud to be involved with such a team?
Canard: I think if we were proud of it, it wouldn’t be true to ourselves. We are all blessed to be here and I think we all have a lot of faith and we all acknowledge a higher purpose. Andrew and Ryan are great guys and I couldn’t ask for a better team.
MXlarge: Now onto Bercy in November, are you looking forward to doing that again, and racing these FIM World Championship guys like Cairoli, Roczen and Musquin on your terms?
Canard: I mean I have some Supercross success in the AMA Supercross this year and I will do some testing before Bercy and I am looking forward to going over there, this will be my first time and I really look forward to going over there, I heard it’s a wild race.
MXlarge: What was the highlight of the weekend?
Canard: What was breathtaking is going around the track and you can hear the support from everyone, which is really cool.
