Interview Tuesday 19th October 2010 By Geoff Meyer

Dimitris Keramidas is a very passionate person. Known throughout the Greek countryside for his work in Motocross and his hope for development of the sport in the country. He also owned a big Motorcycle shop in Athens, Greece called DKRacing where he tries to build the Motorcycle business.

We decided to catch up with Dimitris and ask him about his travels in the sport and his hope for big time Motocross in Greece.

MXlarge: Dimitris, thanks for your time. Can you tell me a little about yourself?

Keramidas: Today I am 40 years old, I started in Motocross when I was 15 years old, and after three years I started to race. My career I had many bad injuries, one year I was out for 8 months, so many bad injuries. I won many titles in Greece, off road scrambles, Motocross. I also rode in many countries in Europe, America, Africa, and Asia.

MXlarge: So you have never been to Australia you told me?

Keramidas: I never went to Australia, but maybe next year, that is my dream to race all over the World. My dream is to ride everywhere in the World. I was 15th place in South African Grand Prix in 1996, but only 15 guys were fast. I won World Championship points and that was important for me. Also one year at Glen Helen, the day before the AMA Nationals I won a race on that famous circuit. So many experiences, I also rode in Mongolia.

MXlarge: That sounds like a dangerous destination?

Keramidas: In Mongolia it was a dangerous trip, there were thieves and they took my passport and money, it was very dangerous. I was with a good friend Giorgos Legakis for 10 days were lost everything. Normally people in Greece don’t travel so much. 20 years ago I went to Barcelona for the Supercross, Jeremy McGrath and J.M.Bayle, my hero’s, after a year so many trips around the World. So many times to America, and all over Europe. I love Motocross and the community.

MXlarge: Tell me about your shop in Greece?

Keramidas: Three years ago I started with my wife a motorcycle shop after many problems in Greece, after the World crisis it is very difficult in Greece, the market is bad, but for my company is good, every year it is bigger and bigger. My goal is to start a big off-road centre for all brands and sell for very cheap. It is good for so many people in Greece; I think we will get many people riding in Greece. At the moment we have just 100 riders in Greece. My shop is in Athens. I am born in Crete, but last 20 years I live in Athens.

MXlarge: What is your plan for your business?

Keramidas: I want to work for five years and get my business to the top level; I want to try some other countries in the area of Greece. We have a big shop for clothing and everything.

I know so much about the history of Motocross. After 25 years I am very happy. I have had many of my dreams and I try so many different races, but my talent was never in a high level, but I am happy. I rode in 28 different countries. I also work for the biggest magazine in Greece.
