Nikolaj Larson interview - Danish MXer

Interview Monday 19th December 2010

Danish Nikolaj Larsen finished this year’s MX2 World Championship in 18th place and originally had a two year deal with the Italian SRS Team, but with an unsure future for the SRS team they parted ways and Larsen is now left to find another ride for 2011.

The Dane has secured a deal with KTM Scandinavia but team wise things are not yet settled.

We decided to sit down with Nikolaj Larsen and ask him about his 2010 season and what the future brings for him.

Q: Nikolaj, how are you doing. Are you enjoying your time off the bike?

A: Yes, I´ve just arrived back in Denmark from a trip to USA with my brother Emil. It was mostly holyday and a chance for Emil to go back and meet the people he was with when he was riding over here. It was a little bit special because he got injured with a broken neck back then and this was his first time back here. It wasn’t all holyday though as RaceSoCal was kind enough to lent me a bike and I couldn’t resist to go ride a little bit.

Q: Looking back at your 2010 season, you finished 18th in the World MX2. Was that satisfying for you?

A: You can say It was and it wasn’t. I mean the team had to face some troubles and it was difficult for us to keep things going on a high level. In the end everybody did their best and I finished 18th. I had hoped for a better result but under the circumstances it was satisfying.

Q: What about 2011. I heard you had a deal and now you don’t?

A: That’s right. I had a deal with a new team but somehow economy came between us and it is still a bit strange to me because I thought we had a deal. Not everything was on paper yet and to sum it up in a short way I just didn´t had enough sponsors to cover the expenditures so at the moment I don’t have a GP ride.

Q: What about 2011 then. What are the plans for now?

A: I´m going to ride KTM as I have a deal with KTM Scandinavia and PSE Parts who has been very supportive though the hole matter with the broken GP deal. I also have a deal with MX-Shop in Denmark and all together it means that I will be riding at least something in Scandinavia. We are also talking with another team but at the moment I can’t say that I´m a sure GP contender in 2011.

Q: If you get a GP deal, what would you prefer MX2 or MX1?

A: Well, my mind is on MX2 but I have tried the new KTM 350 and that is definitely an option. It’s a very cool bike. I haven’t thought much about riding the 450 but who knows; maybe that’s an option too.

Q: What are your plans for the next couple of months?

A: Now I am on my way to Belgium where I will have some physical tests with Willi Linde and we are going to define my training program for the next period. Then next weekend I will go riding some indoor with the rest of the Danish elite riders in Denmark, and shortly we will start the preparations for next season.
