Interview Thursday 02nd March 2011 By Geoff Meyer

American racer Zach Osborne is looking forward to starting his 2011 preparation at the opening round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship this weekend. Having the number one plate on his bike means the pressure might be a little more than in 2010.
The always friendly Osborne isn't looking at it making too much difference as he goes up against his major rival Jake Nicholls this weekend.

Last year the two really put on a great show for the British public and it wasn’t always in the favor of the America. In the end though Osborne proved too strong and won his first major Championship. We sat down and asked Zach about his plans for the coming weekend and what he expects from his opening race this year.

MXlarge:  Your season starts in a few days. What can we expect from you next weekend?

Osborne: I mean I want to win the British Championship and it's an important race for me, but the most important thing this year is to be World Champion and get Grand Prix wins. That is what I have worked hard for all winter and I have had a lot of hard days, days with hunger and hard training and that is my main goal. I don’t need to peak yet and I don’t think you will see the best of me yet.

MXLarge: How important is this weekend’s opening round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship? Is there an added pressure of being defending Champion?

Osborne: Obviously the British is very important for the team and many of the sponsors are from England, so I will give it my best. I don't have any added pressure because I am the defending Champion. It's a straight forward deal and I just have to go out there and get the job done.

MXlarge: On Grand Prix level you are number four in the World and Jake (Nicholls) is outside the top ten, but it's a different story on British soil isn't it?

Osborne: I try to explain that to my father, I struggle with this with my dad, he doesn't understand that in the GP's I am on a different level and then we go to the British Championship he (Nicholls) is right there. I can't explain that and I don't know why that is.  I don't know where it comes from, he is a good rider and he works hard and he will be there every weekend and I just have to be there. I will deal with whatever he brings and try and beat him.

MXlarge: Jake has made steady improvement in the past few years. Do you expect him to be even better than he was in 2010?

Osborne: I am sure he will have made improvements, but I am confident I can deal with that and do what I have to do.
