Interview Wednesday 15th March 2011 By Geoff Meyer

Youthstream have always been busy trying to improve the promotion of the sport of Motocross. It is clear now looking at the FIM World Motocross Championship that the sport has improved a lot, but that doesn’t mean that Youthstream will relax and rest on their laurels.

Presenting MX-LIFE.TV last week comes a new era in the sport of Motocross as not only will Motocross followers around the World be able to watch the live action of the FIM World Motocross Championship on Sunday, but also Saturday qualification races, interesting interviews with riders, team managers and some of the greats of the sport. Several special ideas have been formulated to bring the sport to a total new audience.

We spoke with Luigi Zompetti of Youthstream and he gave us some information about MX-LIFE.TV

Q: Can you give me the details of what this will present for the sport. Will there be something new in the programming?

Zompetti: The way to communicate and to spread the contents is changed: in one side the traditional TV broadcaster are interested only on the mayor sports like football, F1, MotoGP, NFL. In the other side the demand of the new I-generation to get contents is going more and more trough their electronic devices: telephone mobile, I-pad, and computer. Same years ago people used to go to the cinema  or rent a DVD from "blockbuster",  now they  download or they rent the movies with iTunes; before the people went in the bookshop to buy a book or a newspaper, now more and more people buy an  I-book  from Amazon or download the newspaper  on  their i.pad.

Q: What will change for the sport, being at the races or people sitting at home watching it on normal television?

Zompetti: For the sport will be the same: the people will continue to come to the Grand Prix’s, will continue to watch it on television in the covered countries, but from everywhere in the world, all the fans will have the chance to connect their laptop or their internet TV and watch live or on demand hours and hours of exclusive motocross contents. For the next future we are looking to integrate everything we are doing now for the streaming platform as an “app” on major TV devices (including Blue Ray, Set-top boxes).

Q: What is the complete package from MX-LIFE.TV?

Zompetti: MX-LIFE.TV will broadcast the MX1 and MX2 World Championships, the European Motocross Championship 125 and EMX2 and the Veteran World Championship live streaming.  For the first time we will broadcast all the Saturday’s racing and qualifying with back-stage live studios, tests of bikes, curiosity, plus all the normal Sunday program. In addition, we will have also the highlights of all the SuperMoto World Championship, MX3 World Championship, Women World Championship, Junior World Championship, Snow-cross World Championship and Motocross of European Nations.

Q: What do you think is the most important element to make Motocross look good for television?

Zompetti: Motocross is made by many different ingredients that make this sport exciting, fun, fast, crazy, and extreme and many different human qualities that make the difference between a fast rider and champion: the dedication, the skill, the will, the capability to suffer to reach the target. Our wish is to try to transmit and make the fans to feel all the sensation and nuances of this unique sport where still the man is more important than the machine. We want discover the other side of the character of our riders that we are use to hear only during the press conferences in their institutional interview.

Next year will be realized the Motocross World Championship video game available on any current gaming consoles format (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3, Sony Playstation Portable, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Mobile phones. The further step is to create interactivity between the game and the real GP where the fans can compete live during the races having even the chance to beat Cairoli or Roczen…

Q: When will the programs be run, only during the Grand Prix on Sunday or also Saturday or during the week?

Zompetti: The contents will be always on line and there will be special contents even during the week to arrive at the full live program of Saturday and Sunday already mentioned

Q: Which team will you have presenting the show; will you again be working with Paul Malin again, can you give details on what type of people will be involved?

Zompetti: We will have nice surprise also with the team will present the show….

Q: What area do you need to improve on from the previous years?

Zompetti: We are improving in technology with new platform, with the contents filming the entire Saturday full race's program, the behind the scenes, the curiosity and the colors of the paddock. We want to have the comments available in many different languages.

Q: What is the main goal from Youthstream on this new project?

Zompetti: Our goal is to create the best platform, where all the Motocross fans go to participate to our world and where they can give advice and feel a part of this wonderful world.
