MxLarge Story
Zach Osborne interview - Winning in England
Interview Monday 18th April 2011 By Geoff Meyer
We sat down with Zach and asked him about his day and also how he is preparing for the next round of the FIM World Motocross Championships, set for this coming Sunday and Monday.
MXlarge: Zach, how did it go yesterday?
Osborne: Yesterday was really good I won two motos and got a second. Unfortunately Arnaud had a problem in one moto and I got a lot of points on him, so I lead the Championship points now. I got the overall so that was a good day for the team and our sponsors.
MXlarge: How was the track?
Osborne: The track was awesome, really rough. In practice I didn't think it was going to be so rough because it was harder than I remembered, but by the end of the last race it was really good, nice and sandy.
MXlarge: Apart from Tonus did anyone impress you?
Osborne: Of course Tonus and I are on a different level with us racing the World Championship and the other guys just racing the domestic championship, I mean Mel (Pocock) rode really good, two third places, which is a good result for him.
MXlarge: Can you tell me how you felt after your 5th overall in Bulgaria two weeks ago?
Osborne: It was a bit disappointing, I thought I should have been on the podium with the speed I had on Saturday and I was up there for every session and had good times. In the end it was a disappointment to only come away with a 7 and a 4 for fifth overall. I knew I should have been closer to the front.
MXlarge: What was the problem?
Osborne: In the first race I just struggled with arm pump, it's not normally an issue for me, maybe first round gitters or something. The second moto I wasn't on the pace of Tommy and Roczen, but I made a little improvement at the end of the moto and had some good laps. I just need to get some more GP's under my belt and work on the confidence, build on what I have now.
MXlarge: I’ve talked to a few people in the last two weeks and many people have the feeling that Ken Roczen is riding at his peak at the moment and some of the other MX2 riders might be able to improve as the season goes on. Do you think Ken has much of an advantage because he has races a lot recently?
Osborne: I think Ken has benefited doing the Supercross and I am sure my best is yet to come. I think I will do well in Valkenswaard, I have trained a lot in the sand in the winter and I feel good on it. Jeffrey is going to be fast there, I don't know how it will go, I have had some decent results there in the past and the chance and a podium or top five is not out of reach.
