Bryan Mackenzie - My Blog

Interview Friday 08th July 2011 By Bryan Mackenzie

I'd like to take this opening opportunity to say hello and also apologise if I haven't been in touch as much this year as I have in previous. I appreciate that some may not help me in my career directly right now but you have all helped me in some way, shape or form whether it is currently or previously to assist me getting to where I am today.

As we have now just hit the halfway marker of the season and i find myself on a 2 week hiatus from championship racing, i thought maybe you’d like to hear how my 2011 season has been panning out so far in a brief round-up.

Well as you will be aware it started off great with the LPE Kawasaki team taking me under their wing and giving me an awesome opportunity to apply myself fully to compete in the Maxxis British and Red Bull pro national mx2 championships. Late on in the day we additionally added the British Masters championship to our calendar to which i decided i would like to compete in the mx2 and mx1 classes in this particular series.

In the Maxxis British championship we’ve had a slightly turbulent time so far as we stand just after the half way point. Currently sitting in 5th position in the championship, we have had some highs and lows to say the least. Managing to back up my first podium position from last years season more than once we have also unfortunately fell up the tiniest bit short on more than one occasion in the hunt for that elusive first ever overall podium! That aside, the results have been fairly strong and consistent and more often than not we find ourselves in the top handful of riders by the end of the day. From here till the end of the season i would love to continue with my recent form and hope to finally take that step onto the podium at some point and to eventually finish up the championship somewhere inside the top 5.

The Red Bull pro nationals started badly for me at the first round. At a track that i really don’t like i found the going tough and a mental challenge more than anything to get the result that we were looking for in that championship. Since then we have progressed at each venue, finishing on the podium at the latest round in Whitby and currently sit 3rd place in points. Again, my goals for the rest of the season are to push for race wins at each and every stop and continually finish on the podium and round out the season up there too.

The British Masters championship is going well for us. As this wasn’t initially in our plans at the beginning of the season i took the decision to race both mx1 and mx2 at the first round. Both classes run on the same day and the races are only an hour or so apart making it very physically demanding to endure 4 races, on different capacity bikes in one day. However after leaving the first round with 2 good overall results i decided to continue with this for the duration of the championship and with only 2 rounds remaining, currently sit 1st in mx2 and 2nd in mx1.

I have also been keeping my ‘hand in’ on the weekends off from my racing commitments by competing in as many Scottish championship races i can and also once in an International event in Australia. The Scottish championship unfortunately clashes with some of my other commitments so to complete the full series is just not possible. But for the rounds that i have done i have gone un-defeated and won all 15 motos that i have started and went on to finish 2nd overall in the Manjimup 15000 international motocross event in Western Australia.

So that’s it in a nut shell. Things have been going pretty well for me this year and we sit on target to achieve all our goals that were set in the early part of the season. As much as i’d like to improve everywhere, i still have to be happy that we are hitting our marks and i still love motocross!

Take care now and I hope to catch up with everyone again soon,

Thanks again,

Bryan Mackenzie
