MxLarge Story
Marvin Musquin - Holeshot Master
News Thursday 25th June 2009 By Geoff Meyer
There is no doubt with just six rounds remaining that Musquin has set himself an easier path to the 2009 title. To make matter even better for the Frenchman, his rivals now have to deal with Ken Roczen, who might just make life difficult for everyone in the MX2 class, Musquin included.
Q: Marvin, you have done some serious winning in the last month. Can you run through your results so far?
Musquin: I win the qualification races in England, in France, and in Germany. I also won two of the Sunday races in England, two in France and one in Germany. I take the holeshot every time and win. I was fighting for the lead when I crashed in the first moto in Germany, and finished sixth, but I had a good chance to also win that race.
Q: You seem to have fitted into the KTM team so easily. How does it feel working with somebody like Stefan Everts?
Musquin: The bike is really good and I feel good with Stefan Everts and the team, he helps me with the lines, the jumps, with the track, but I also have my manager Yannig and he also helps me. With both Stefan and Yannig my confidence is really good and also with the KTM team. We all get on well, and there is no pressure at all with them.
Q: How did it feel in Germany?
Musquin: Germany was really hard, but that was okay. I finished third for the Grand Prix and I am really happy about that, it was a good race for the championship. The track was really rough, but I enjoyed it. I didn't have a good first moto, because of the crashes, but the second moto was better for me. Ken (Roczen) was really strong, but I was able to catch him and race with him, and then pass him and get the moto win.
Q: If you look at Paulin at the moment he seems to struggle out of the start?
Musquin: Yes, Paulin has had bad starts, I think he doesn’t take good starts much at the moment, I have a good bike and take the holeshot all the time, that makes it easier. I took three holeshots in Ernee, two in England and two in Germany, I was second in the second moto in Germany, so the bike is good out of the start.
Q: Obviously for you Lierop and Lommel will be difficult races. What do you think of those races?
Musquin: I think with my new bike I will be okay in Lommel and Lierop. The engine is so powerful, and I prefer the suspension now on the KTM, compared to what I had before.
