Kenneth Gundersen - Short Term Comeback
News Friday 03rd July 2009 By Steve Dixon
Team principal Steve Dixon had heard that Kenneth was planning to ride the MX1 class at the up coming Scandinavian round, so promptly contacted the Norwegian to set a new plan in motion - for Kenneth to ride for the UTAG Yamaha team on injured rider Zach Osborne's YZ250F in the MX2 class.
"I have only just found out that Kenneth was riding a bike again after his retirement last year, he (Kenneth) told me he'd started back a while ago racing low-key local meetings on a Yamaha." said Steve Dixon "I suggested he could ride Zach's bike in the MX2 class under the UTAG banner and he agreed".
Kenneth will ride the injured American's bike with his own number 912, bringing with him his own suspension and wearing his own sponsors brand of riding kit. Mike Whitwick, who was Kenneth's technician in 2008 before his retirement, will take care of bike preparation.
Steve Dixon said of his expectations.
"We're not asking for miracles from Kenneth, so there's no pressure on him from us. It will just be great to see him at a Grand Prix again on the UTAG MX2 bike, he always looked better on the smaller capacity bikes in my opinion."
Kenneth Gundersen comments.
"It was great to hear from Steve and I'm looking forward to riding a competitive bike in a class I really enjoy, also I really enjoy the Uddevalla circuit and I have had some good results there in the past. I know I will feel comfortable working with Mike and the team so I can concentrate on the riding, to do the best I can for the team, my fans and myself."
