Grand Prix of Sweden - Rider Comments

Max Nagl in action - Geoff Meyer

News Sunday 05th July 2009 By Geoff Meyer

Red Bull KTM totally dominated the Grand Prix of Sweden with MX1, MX2 and the Womens victories. It's been a weekend of mixed emotions, although who stands on the victory podium laughs last and KTM sure were smiling today.

Max Nagl

I am really happy I had two good starts and the first heat I was in front and controlled the race and second heat I wanted the same start and I wanted to fight with Antonio who lead me and we made a gap to the others riders. I am really happy about this weekend. If it stays like this I am in the right direction. Ken (De Dycker) will be fast in Lommel and Lierop, but I like the circuits coming up and I will be so glad with top three in the championship.

Stefan is always looking around the track and telling me which lines to take and one corner I lost a lot of time to Antonio and Stefan asked me why didn't I change my lines, that is something I need to learn. Sure I want to fight for the championship, I have never been this close before, of course I am also looking at the championship, that is everyones goal.

Antonio Cairoli

Out of the gate I was good, but Josh came close to me and I had Philippaerts on one side and Josh on the others and I had to slow down or I might have crashed, I was 12th after the first lap and I didn't want to make mistakes and I lost time passing people and also passing David was tough and he was riding fast. Also in the last two or three laps I caught Desalle, but he is hard to pass and I didn't want to risk trying to pass him. Holeshot in the second moto helped, I haven't had great starts, making up places, so taking the holeshot made it easier. I was pushing and Max was close, but I could not make up ground on him. There were places I could pass on the MX2 bike, but the MX1 riders are more experienced and close the line. This week I decide my future and we see what I decide. This week everyone will know what my plans are. I will go to Sicily in this break period and rest a little.

Ken De Dycker

It's going to be hard and everyone is so fast and if I make mistakes I miss out on so many points. I will keep fighting and try and get those points back. It was difficult here, the speed was the same and if I wanted to pass I would have had to have done something really aggresive. Also in the first moto with Nagl I didn't get close enough to win, or try and make a pass. I am happy with the results.

Rui Goncalves

For sure it was great for my team, we won in three classes and it looks like we have a good team, we are really strong and we proved it today. It was nice to race Ken, he was quick in the first moto, we passed eachother a couple of times and I managed to finish second, that was good. I think he had a bad start in the second one and I just did my own race and lead straight away I am pumped. I mean I went a little to the right (at the start) and as I made itout of the gate, I crossed over and went too far the right.

Ken Roczen

It was awesome for me. I was third and then had a battle with Rui, winning my GP in Germany was awesome and also my first moto win was the same. I enjoyed it, I watched his lines and tried to make some other ones to try and pass him and then he did the same to me and caught me, but I won. I got bumped at the start by Rui and I was a long way back, but I am happy with my position. The track was nice, pretty difficult, but I enjoyed it. I could hear the crowd were behind me, that was really nice.

Gautier Paulin

For sure, I am not happy with my first race, bad start, but I was okay, then I had a big crash, I wasn't so happy with my first race. For sure when we are in the World Championship if you lose one point it is bad. I was stuck behind a rider for a long time, but I was happy with second in the second moto and my condition was good. I will go back and work with my trainer for the sand races coming up, I want to be 100% in the sand and my goal is to win the championship. It is good to have a break now and test some things and get our condition better and have some rest also. I mean it is four times I can say Maddi is getting in my way when I come around to lap him. They (the lapped riders) stay on the racing line and I am not so happy about this. I talked to Rui and they did the same to him.
