News Sunday 02nd August 2009 By Geoff Meyer

Six riders stood on top of the podium at the Grand Prix of Belgium, three coming from Belgium, one from Germany, one from Italy and one from France. Here are their comments.

Ken De Dycker comments

For sure I am happy about it, it's so hard, and also I didn't have a good race until now for myself. It's been okay today, but even the second moto wasn't perfect. Of course it is a good result and with three races to go I want to be in the top three and if I can keep working like this and keep doing my best. I just hope I have done enough to stay in the Teka Suzuki team. I wasn't able to really do much and I got tired and made mistakes and I didn't want to crash. It was a pretty good track, just the finish jump and big table were difficult, but it was really sandy and last year it was harder and not really a sand track.

Max Nagl comments

The first moto my start wasn't so good and my rear wheel went into the sand, and my riding wasn't so good, the track was better for me in the second moto, and I needed to do better. I still need to do more work if my start isn't good, the second heat I had the holeshot and push hard, but Stefan said don't push too hard early otherwise I get tired and that is why Ken was able to race with me, but then I got going and I knew I could win the second heat.

Antonio Cairoli comments

It was okay for me, it's my first race after almost two years, because last year I missed Lierop and Lommel and also my first sand race on the 450 bike and I had to push hard because my starting gate wasn't good. I passed Max and David at the end of the second moto, so that was good for the championship. I know these types of track you can do something in the last ten minutes and I know I can push for 40 minutes, so I was looking forward to winning the race, but if you get a bad start it's hard to catch them back. I was hoping for a podium. For sure (KTM is fast) Max has the most holeshots all year and for sure all the bikes have good condition, maybe 20 years ago it was different. MX2 comments

Marvin Musquin comments

I think this is nice for me, and for Red Bull KTM and for the championship, I came back good and won the two motos in the sand and that is nice. I trained good and yesterday I was fast and I was focused for today. I knew the race would be difficult, many bumps and my bike are good and the suspension was perfect. My bike is really powerful and I want to thank my mechanic and the whole team. Last week I was fast in the sand and it felt so good on the bike. For sure it is good for my confidence to be with Red Bull KTM. Valkenswaard was difficult for me and the here was much better of course, the bike made the difference. I took 50 points for the championship and Paulin made some mistakes, and Goncalves was strong, but I got a good advantage here.

Joel Roelants comments

I like to be on the podium, I expect to be here a little bit, first heat I was third and trying to catch Rui, but I got sand in my goggles and got a little tired. I thought I could let Marvin go in the second mot and try and catch him later, but he was too fast. I didn't want to crash. I hope in Lierop I can ride good, but first I look at Loket and I want to make a good result there. I didn't think about doing well for selection for the Motocross of Nations. I know that if I ride well enough I can be selected, and if I don't then I won't be selected. I would love to ride in that event and show that Belgian riders are also very good. I won't be mad if I am not selected, if the team manager thinks I am not good enough, or a another rider is better than that is how it is.

Dennis Verbruggen comments

I don't dream about a podium place, I put a lot of effort into the season and this week it was unexpected to be on the podium, but I know I am good in the sand. The team has supported me so well and I hope everyone in the team is happy and I want to be more on the podium. I think I found my place and also I found myself. This year is the first year I put a lot of dedication into my sport and so many people told me, you can do it, but believe in yourself and now I am doing it, so I want to continue this.
