James Stewart Set To Win Bercy 2009
News Tuesday 27th October 2009 By Pascal Haudiquert
Winner last year in Bercy, James is back in France a few weeks after his successful comeback in Las Vegas and will do his second race aboard the new 450 Yamaha. Since the first edition of the event in 1984, Bercy regularly met the top American riders.
After Jeff Ward, David Bailey, Ricky Johnson, Jeff Stanton and Jeremy Mac Grath who all won the event, James Stewart crosses the Atlantic last year to race his first Supercross outside the American continent. It was a successful trip for him, as he won all the races and became the 17th rider (and the 13th American) to be celebrated as ‘King of Bercy’.
This season Stewart only raced selected Supercross events, and once more he added Bercy to his program.
“Last year I discovered this race and Paris, and I enjoyed both of them so this year my mother is coming with me. I want to show her this race and Paris. Last year I was pleased to see how well organized this race is, it’s for sure a race but the promoter did a show around it and it looks like a concert. The fans were amazing, and when I got the trophy after the third night, I told them that I would be back” explained James a few weeks after winning the US Open of Supercross in Vegas.
Two months prior the opening round of the 2010 World Supercross championship in Anaheim (California), Bercy will be another step of his winter program.
“For sure I just did a few races since the final round of the 2009 series, but I never stopped training and I come to Bercy ready to win. I did several testing sessions on the new Yamaha, won in Vegas, and prepare Bercy on my private’s tracks. I’ve several layouts, and one of them looks like Vegas and Bercy, smaller than the outdoor tracks” added the SX World champion.
Last year none of his rivals was able to beat him, and this year again James expect to win all the races.
“I’m back in Bercy to win another title! But we never know what can happen after the start, it’s always possible to crash and you must respect all your rivals. I’m sure that Marvin Musquin will be strong; he is also World Champion and I know that he is strong on a Supercross track” ended the US star who will be the favorite of the event, against thirteen of the best Supercross riders.
