Back in Time - Bercy Supercross 2009

First, second and third on Friday night in Bercy (James Stewart, Justin Brayton and Marvin Musquin) - Geoff Meyer image

News Monday 11th October 2010 By Geoff Meyer

As expected American hero James Stewart dominated the Friday night of the 2009 Bercy Supercross. The Yamaha mounted AMA Champion won every race he entered and was in a class of his own. World MX2 Champion Marvin Musquin got stronger as the night went on finishing third in the Final.

The Bercy Supercross continued to bring exciting action and while the glory days of the 1980's and 90's are long gone the show continued with dancing girls, lazer lights and a noisy crowd.

The entrance of Stewart tonight was impressive as the large television screen showed the American hanging out at the Eiffel Tower, after a quick drink of Red Bull he raced across to Bercy on a jet ski across the Seine river.

Once Stewart arrived in the stadium the crowd went wild. Stewart continued to give the crowd their moneys worth as he dances his way around the stadium and it didn't change once the racing started.

Stewart won the Superpole with the quickest time (an event that pits all the riders together until the final rider (Stewart) does a fast lap. The quickest rider is the winner, and that was Mr Stewart. Second quickest was Justin Brayton, followed by GP regular Gregory Aranda.

The AMA Supercross Champion then won the American race, ahead of Brayton, and Benjamin Coisy, then led home Brayton and Marvin Musquin in the main event. Beating home Brayton by nine seconds.

"This is a special event," Stewart told. "The crowd here are just so much fun and it makes it nice to race here. I expected to win, that is why I race. I didn't have any trouble tonight and it was great to be back here. Last year I came here wanting to show I was quick on the Yamaha, this year it's more about having fun."
