AMA Supercross season 2010 - Weeks away

News Thursday 23th December 2009 By Geoff Meyer

The 2010 AMA Supercross Championship begins in around three weeks time and for sure this years opener will have some exciting moments. Will it be defending champion James Stewart who has had a mixed winter, with little racing, or will it be two time AMA Supercross Champion Chad Reed, who has ridden a lot more in the last eight months.

Stewart has raced only the Bercy Supercross in the last seven months, his only other racing experience in 2009 being of course the AMA Supercross series, which ended in May of this year.

So it's been six months since Stewart has been consistantly on a race track. I remember the season Jeremy McGrath missed the AMA Motocross series, but he still did a lot of races in Europe and was prepared when the following seasons AMA Supercross series started, still he looked a little rusty compared to his dominant years.

Same could be said for others in the past who have missed the AMA Motocross series. I honestly think that Reed will so much race time will have something for Stewart and the black flash might have trouble coming to terms with the Aussie, who has been in some great battled back in Australia at the Australian SuperX series.

Sure Reed was only racing a bunch of Aussies and a mix of American tourists, but he still have tough racing under his belt. Stewart had three easy nights in Bercy and then skipped racing in Italy and Australia for other Supercross races.

He didn't race the Outdoor series, he didn't race the MXoN and he hasn't really been pushed in a race since Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed beat him. It seems a huge ask to come back form that amount of time off the bike and run with Reed.

Time will tell, but my money is on Reed winning from Stewart and Villopoto.
