Mantova Starcross - Cairoli leads KTM to victory
News Sunday 07th February 2010 By Geoff Meyer
Second overall was Steve Ramon 6-4-4, and third place going to Clement Desalle with 16-2-2. The leader in the MX2 class was Shaun Simspon with 4-7-14, next came Marvin Musquin with 18-11-8.

Early in the day American Jimmy Albertson won the One on One race, which was a part of the program where one rider would line up against another rider, until only two riders remain. After knocking off Clement Desalle, Max Nagl, and Steve Ramon Albertson then beat World MX1 Champion Antonio Cairoli in the MX1 Final, before beating Marvin Musquin in the MX1 versus MX2 Final.
The opening moto began with Steve Ramon leading ahead of Jimmy Albertson and Antonio Cairoli following. Ramon looked strong, although the diminutive Cairoli had worked his way past Albertson and soon after hit the lead. With fresh air in his nose the Italian took off winning easily. Albertson crashed out of the race, while Ramon dropped back to sixth position. Shaun Simpson was the top MX2 finisher with fourth place. The Scottish rider worked his way past several of the top MX1 boys for his result.
The second moto and Cairoli took the lead on the first corner and took off, winning by three seconds ahead of Clement Desalle and Tanel Leok. Again Simpson was top MX2 rider, finishing in seventh place.
The third and final moto it was Tanel Leok who led from the first lap, with Ramon, Desalle, Cairoli and Albertson following. After a handful of laps both Desalle and Cairoli worked their way past Ramon, while Leok continued to look strong up front.
After nine laps Leoks lead was five seconds and Albertson was fighting with Philippaerts for fifth place, some 20 seconds back on Leok. Desalle and Cairtoli were slowly closing the lead of Leok, cutting it down to four seconds on lap 10. It wasn’t enough though as Leok won from Desalle and Cairoli.
