South African journey complete - CAS Honda
News Friday 11th February 2010 By CAS Honda
CAS Honda is pleased to report that it has concluded its two-week intensive test in South Africa with positive results, as riders Gareth Swanepoel and Evgeny Bobryshev dialled in their machines in readiness of the start of the 2010 season.
During their 14-day stint in the South African sunshine, both riders benefited from time with the team refining the set-up of their CRF450R machines to their liking, as they prepare for their CAS Honda debut at the end of this month.
The Honda duo ran through numerous engine and suspension test items throughout the intensive test schedule, and concluded the two weeks feeling well prepared for the 15 World and eight British MX1 Championship rounds they will contest this year.
Swanepoel is pleased with the progress he has made, deeming the test the best pre-season preparation he has ever had in his World Championship career with regards to fitness and riding. The 25-year-old South African pilot already feels confident aboard the CAS Honda machinery, having made huge steps forward in achieving a good set-up for his bike, and is hungry for success this season.
Teammate Bobryshev, who makes his MX1 debut this year, ended the test excited about his prospects and feeling ready to race. The 22-year-old Russian pilot is confident the package that both he and the CAS Honda squad has developed is a strong one, and is more than happy with his race machine.
Both riders have settled very quickly into the CAS Honda set-up and will return to Europe in the next week for further testing and final preparations ahead of the season opener at the end of February.
Gareth Swanepoel #8:
“The last few weeks have been very beneficial and I feel this is the best preparation I have ever had for a season. I am coming from a good solid year where I have stayed healthy and having the team come here to South Africa to test has helped a lot. I am so confident on the bike already and I am hungry to race, it’s going to be fun. Having bobby as my teammate has upped my pace, and we are all working very well together. We ran through a lot of engine and suspension items to find a really strong workable package and the CRF 450R is working well. All in all, I am very happy with what we have achieved in the last few weeks, although I know there’s even more to come and areas we can further improve. I’m now heading to Europe where we will conclude our testing schedule for the first race of the year.”
Evgeny Bobryshev #777:
“Testing has been great and we have a fantastic package. We ran through a lot of different parts and every day I was enjoying the bike more and more. In fact, by the end of the test everything seemed perfect and I have to say thanks so much to Neil (Prince) as he has done everything possible to make me feel happy and comfortable on the bike. My fitness is good, and I am so pleased with the set-up of my bike, I can’t wait to race. I will now return to Russia before heading to Europe for finalising our preparation for the first British Championship race.”
Neil Prince: CAS Honda Team Manager
“We’ve started the season well and this has been a positive test for CAS Honda. Both riders have worked hard and with the good weather we have run through many items over the two weeks in South Africa. We are already working very well together, and the riders have benefited from lots of time on the bike where they have been able to make step-by-step adjustments to understand our CRF 450R. I am happy with how things have progressed and our package is certainly good, as both riders are riding comfortably in different conditions, including some of the rough tracks out here. I’m sure we can take a lot from our intensive test and learn where we can make further improvements back at base in Europe, where we’ll be finalising our machines ready to race.”
