Cairoli wins in Valence - Roczen takes MX2

Antonio Cairoli has won his second International of the season with a convincing win in the Valence International today. The Red Bull KTM factory rider went 5-1-1 for 66pts and finished well ahead of second placed Monster Energy Yamaha rider David Philippaerts who went 4-4-3, third overall was Suzuki factory rider Steve Ramon with 12-2-2.
Rounding out the top five was Anthony Boissiere and Sebastien Pourcel. American Mike Alessi struggled against the leading GP riders and finished in 14th overall, while Jimmy Albertson was 12th overall.
In the MX2 class 15 year old Ken Roczen of the Teka Suzuki team proved too strong for defending World MX2 Champion Marvin Musquin as the German rider went 3-1-10 (the last moto a combined race with the MX1 bikes). Second overall was Musquin with 1-2-13, and third was Monster Energy Pro-Circuit rider Steven Frossard with 5-3-7 scores.
Another of the Red Bull KTM Factory riders Shaun Simpson looked strong early, finishing second in the opening MX2 moto, although a crash while battling with team-mate Jeffrey Herlings saw him retire with an injured arm.

Surprise packet of the opening MX1 moto was Gregory Aranda. Having impressed in his short AMA Supercross experience in January the Frenchman led from lap one until the finish of the moto. Jonathan Barragan held second place for the entire race, while Mike Alessi went from fourth in the early stages to drop back to sixth, then seventh and finally making a mistake on the last lap and dropping to 15th.
Antonio Cairoli began the opening lap in fifth place and finished in fifth. Cairoli, Desalle and Philippaerts swapped paint and positions in the opening moto with Desalle and Philippaerts finishing just ahead of the Italian in third and fourth positions.
The second MX1 moto and it was Cairoli from Ramon, Pourcel, Philippaerts, Desalle, Barragan, Alessi, Boissiere, Boog and in tenth place Albertson.
In the final moto which combined MX1 and MX2 it was Cairoli, Ramon, Philippaerts, Leok, Pourcel, Boissiere, Frossard, Paulin, Nagl and Roczen in 10th place.
In the opening MX2 moto Red Bull KTM rider Marvin Musquin led from start to finish, but there was some action back in the pack. The two year olds Ken Roczen and Jeffrey Herlings swapped spots in the middle of the race before Roczen moved into third place and Herlings dropped back to 8th place. Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Steven Frossard who started the first lap in 16th position worked hard and moved into fifth palce with two laps to go, he also clocked the quickest lap of the race.
