David Knight DNF's in Florida

News Saturday 06th March 2010 By Jonty Edmunds

Competing in the infamous Alligator Enduro as part of his ongoing preparations for the ’10 Enduro World Championship season David Knight disappointingly failed to reach the end of the 60th running of the Floridian event having been forced out of the race while leading.

Competing on his training bike, having jetted into the States just a few days before the event, Knight’s positive start to the event was relatively short lived as he sucked water into his engine, which ended his day prematurely. The fastest rider through the first and second sections of the event David was leading the race at the time of his retirement.

Knight will remain in Florida until March 16 when he heads back to the UK to compete in the opening round of the British Enduro Sprint Championship, the second round of the British Enduro Championship and then the start of the Enduro World Championship.

David Knight: ‘It’s always disappointing not to finish an event, no matter what race it is, but as competing Alligator Enduro was just a one-off outing for me it’s not the end of the world. I really enjoyed the event and trying the format of a US enduro race for the first time. It’s a great format, which is different to what we have in Europe. I’d certainly like to do more US enduro events. The race was the start of 10 days of training in Florida before I head back to the UK to complete me preparations for the start of the Enduro World Championship. The event was really going well for me but I sucked some water through my engine and that was basically that. I was competing on the training bike that I have in Florida, which has a lot of hours on it, and I guess it didn’t like me pushing it hard through the really wet sections of the course.’
