Why was the USGP such a huge success

It will go down as one of the most pleasant GP's I have attended. While I sit at Houston airport waiting for my flight back to Amsterdam I only have a good feeling about last weekends USGP and here is why.
Doesn't matter where it is, or when, the old USA versus Grand Prix will always be exciting. While Antonio Cairoli walked away with the GP I really saw it as even between the AMA and FIM guys. Mike Alessi and Ben Townley both proved how fast they are, and I wouldn't be surprised to see those two first and second at this weekends AMA National. They both improved their speed last weekend, and racing against the likes of Cairoli and Desalle has to be pretty good practice for the future.

I also loved seeing so many former AMA riders floating around. Names like Johnnny O'Mara, Ron Lechien, David Bailey, Ricky Johnson, Seb Tortelli, Jeff Emig, and so many more, it was pure bliss for a MX fan.

Some people mentioned about the crowd being small, and while it wasn't huge, it was good enough to make for a cosy weekend, real motocross fans enjoying some amazing racing.

The racing was for sure the highlight. The way Alessi and Cairoli battled for the GP overall was just classic. Swapping the lead on several occasions really gave the crowd and paddock people something to enjoy. WIth Townley putting in his comeback ride it was the perfect way to end what was a really enjoyable weekend.

How about the news of Monster Energy taking over the name rights for the World Motocross Championship, or the news of Australia starting the 2011 championship and a possible three GP's in America. I am just so happy to be involved in a series that is growing at a huge pace and in a time when the World struggles. Somebody is doing something right and I sure am glad I am along for the ride.

More later, I got a flight to catch.
