Ken De Dycker "I didn't win the second heat but I did win the GP and that's the most important thing. The track is a little different from last year and it was a bit heavy. Now I will go home and train in the sand to prepare for the next race and like always, I will try to do my best. I enjoyed the atmosphere and it was great to hear the people here in Germany cheering for me. It was great in France last time because that's my home GP but I thought it would be different here in Germany!" David Philippaerts Ken Roczen Xavier Boog “The first part of the weekend was not so great, but I improved my results in each race. Before the last race I was forced to move on the grid as one rival took my place, and I came on a dusty one. I lost grip at the start and came to the first corner in the pack, and nearly crashed; it’s a shame as we had perfect settings for the start after the first race, and when I came back fourth the leaders were far away. I focused on my riding, posted a series of fast laps and joined them to win the last race. I ended my weekend with a great performance, that’s a good training for the upcoming GP’s” Steven Frossard “We have made some changes on the bike since the last GP, and I wheelied at the start of the first race because I am not yet quite used to the change in the way the power comes in. I was still seventh by the end of the first lap and managed to battle through to third by the finish which shows that the changes are working well because it’s always difficult to pass here in Teutschenthal. My start in the second race was better but then I made a mistake at the second corner; I hit a neutral and went from fourth position to eighth. I was able to recover to fourth place again after a few laps, but the first three riders were too far ahead so I just missed the podium. That was a little disappointing because I had the same points as the guy in third; I’ve always had good results here and I was expecting another podium.” “The first race I was happy, finally I got my first top three finish of the season in race one after coming so close in each of the last few GPs. I made a great start and could keep the same pace as Musquin in the lead to get this second place and confirm that we are working in the right direction. Unfortunately I did a wheelie off the starting in the second race, but I had a good first lap to come round eighth. I’m not sure what happened but I had a big crash on the fourth lap which put me down to 19th position but I wasn’t hurt and was able to recover to seventh at the finish. That’s quite an achievement on this rough track, but it wasn’t quite enough to get me on the podium.”
“It’s great to finally be able to repay the Bud Racing team and Kawasaki for their support and the faith they have shown in me whilst I have been injured. Coming from the US I never raced in such deep ruts as this before and we were struggling for set-up in the first race, but the team are doing an awesome job with the bike and the changes they made for race two were great. I don’t think the people back home realise just how fast the racing is in the world championship, and I was able to move forward into the top ten from 13th on lap one to score my first points. Our season started today and I’m really excited now for the rest of the year.“ Clement Desalle Tony Cairoli "This is not one of my lucky tracks. I always struggle a lot here," Cairoli said. "I had a bad start in the first heat then I got stuck with Tanel Leok and I was last. I got up to sixth and I was pretty satisfied with my speed and my training but not with my sixth place, even though I managed to save some points. In the second heat I almost got the holeshot with Max and then I had problems with some arm pump min the first couple of laps. De Dyker was very fast but in the end I got very close to him and he only beat me by half a second. For sure it was exciting for the people. Of course I wanted to win but it's not always possible." "I said to myself, well this is my home GP. I will try my best. This is one of my favorite tracks. Maybe I can't ride but I'm going to try. I had some pain on Saturday but it was okay. But this morning I had to stop after only three laps in free practice because of the pain. I got a small injection and that helped a lot. I had quite a good start in the first heat and I was fifth and finished fifth so that was good for the points. I got the holeshot in the second heat but after 10 minutes I was in so much pain. We only found out this weekend I have a blockage with two of the bones in my back from the crash in France so now I will go back to Belgium to my Osteopath to get it fixed." "I've had three bad race weekends now so I just have to fight back hard and try to get out of the hole," he said. "It was very good for me on Saturday. I won the qualification and I felt good going into today, maybe a little too good. I had a good start but then I got passed by Marvin and I couldn't stick with him. Then I had some technical problems and couldn't finish. I crashed a couple of times in the second moto, which was my own fault but I did manage to get back from eleventh to eighth so I felt good about that." "I took two good starts. I was in the top three in the first race and I got the holeshot in the second. In the first race I should have finished sixth but I made a mistake and finished ninth. I hit a patch of water on the track and I crashed. I got the holeshot in the second race. I tried to follow Ken Roczen but it wasn't possible then Marvin and Osborne passed me. I did have some problem with the start clip on the front fork. A stone came up and hit it and it got jammed. I lost about six second with that." Zach Osborne Jake Nicholls “I’ve had such a frustrating weekend. Last week I thought I had made a step up with speed at Lyng and I felt great during the week and during the first couple of sessions here but in the heat race I had quite a big crash which left me a bit sore. I didn’t have such a good gate pick but I was coming forwards in the first moto with Roelants until I made a few mistakes and lost the tow. I was stuck in no-man’s land on my own but tenth was OK. In the second race I just got a corner wrong and tipped over. I don’t understand what happened and I feel like I haven’t crashed as much in my life. I think I am at that stage now where I am trying to push onto the next step and maybe going at it too hard. It is not good enough at the moment and I should be in the top ten every time. I need to get my two good results back in place and then build from there.” Evgeny Bobryshev “It was an awesome day and I am happy with these results because the last two GPs had not gone so well for me with DNF’s and bad finishes. I was pretty sad after France because I had thrown away a lot of points, but it is getting better again. The track was quite good but hard for passing and if you pushed really hard then you could have a big crash. There were big bumps and ruts, so it was not easy. When I was really pushing hard my legs were off the bike each corner! In the second race I really wanted to pass Nagl in the final part of the race but it was not possible; overall though I am happy. We have some good points and everything is positive for the next few races.” Gareth Swanepoel “I feel pretty good after today and overall things are starting to come up. Last weekend in Lyng was good and so was this Grand Prix. I qualified tenth and was happy with that, as I managed to keep in touch with the guys ahead. Today was positive with some good starts. I was running tenth in the first one and unfortunately had a small crash and went back to thirteenth. The second moto was tough because the track was so bumpy. I was a bit disappointed with myself on the first few laps, but once I got going I put in some decent lap times and managed tenth. I think Latvia will be really good for me. It is a bit sandy and loose and I’m looking forward to it.” Dean Ferris “It was gnarly out there and really rutty. You have to try and flow and that’s hard for 40 mins. First moto was tough but for the second moto I changed my gearing and it seemed to work well. The bike had more torque and this suited my riding style. I have loved my first taste of World Championship competition and would certainly like the chance to ride again. There are a lot of positives to build on.” Jimmy Albertson “It was good to finish some motos as I haven’t done so since Portugal. Was real nice to get some points under my belt and run to the end in both. My fitness is good but not where it should be as I haven’t been able to train as I normally would during my injury. As for the track, I really liked it and found it easy to pass. There were tons of lines and guys were making mistakes all over the place. It was tough running but real good fun and it was great to be back on the bike.” Davide Guarneri “It was a strange day. My speed was not so bad, but I’m not so pleased with the results. The first moto was sort of on/off. I made way too many mistakes, especially at the start of the race. On top of that I stalled the bike and later I crashed. When I could push, things were okay. So given the conditions I could not have hoped for more than eleventh. In the second moto my start was not so good, but I was chasing Philippaerts and fought for sixth with him.” Tanel Leok “I feel a bit gutted to leave here with tenth overall. Especially because my fitness is okay now and I didn’t mind the rough track so much! In the first moto me and Cairoli touched and my brake pedal was completely bent so I had to stop at the bottom of the hill before the second turn to kick it out. But even after that it was still not right! On the second corner of the second heat I crashed again. Philippaerts came over the ruts, we came together and then someone else ran into me. Again I was last and had to come back! I had a good rhythm but I collided with Swanepoel, went down and after that I had some problems to get the bike going again. Hopefully I will have more luck in Latvia!” |
