Red Bull Pro Nationals - Silverstone Sensation
News Wednesday 23th June 2010 By Jeff Perritt
The Red Bull Elite Youth Cup and Fuchs-Silkolene Open 2 stroke races return to the programme as they were not part of the racing at Silverstone due to time table restrictions so it will be back to a packed out weekend of race action as usual. On top of that the Red Bull X Fighter Jams tour will be rocking up to entertain the folk of Whitby with better backflippin’ than an Olympic gymnast! The Suzuki MX Experience will also be on hand to encourage new people into motocross and off course they’ll be the regular giant live feed TV and the Red Bull Party on Saturday night only this time with the live band Feral Sun coming to rock Whitby. The London based band are one of leading up and coming rock bands in Europe and will certainly set the tone for Sunday’s racing.
Red Bull Pro Nationals
Brad Anderson (PAR Honda) is fully aware that his lead at the top of the MX1 class has been reduced to 11 points after Ben Lamay (Samsung Yamaha) put on a blistering display at Silverstone. The young American is the man with the momentum at the moment as he grows in confidence and Anderson will be doing all he can to derail him. James Noble (Proppa.com Honda) has now moved up into third ahead of last year’s MX1 champion Carl Nunn (MVR-D Suzuki) and will be a firm favourite on the track he helped design. James’ teammate Nathan Parker is improving all the time and starting to run top five motos which has rocketed him up to fifth in the standings. With Stephen Sword (Buildbase CCM), Gordon Crockard (Paul Bird Kawasaki) and Jason Dougan (Phoenix Tools/Bike it/Cosworth Yamaha) all wanting to put a disappointing performance behind them at Silverstone it could become an epic. Not forgetting Kawasaki duo Alex Snow (Albion) and Gert Krestinov (Maxxis/Henderson/LPE) who are also more than capable of bagging a podium spot.
Martin Barr (PAR Honda) is on real form at the moment and extended his lead to 28 points at Silverstone with another overall victory over Elliott Banks Browne (Pulse/DB Racing Honda). Elliott admitted on the podium that he has to do something soon to stop Barr edging away at the front. Kristian Whatley (Maxxis/Henderson/LPE Kawasaki) bagged his second podium finish of the year to move up to third on his ahead of Bryan Mackenzie (Horseman’s Kawasaki) as the pair of them fight to be team green’s top MX2 rider. TM’s Stuart Edmonds has now moved into fifth pass Neville Bradshaw (Samsung Yamaha) who missed Silverstone with injury.
Red Bull Elite Youth Cup
The kids never fail to deliver as they fight equally as hard for the championship. In the Rookie class Sunny Thompson (Samsung Yamaha) has every chance of picking up the red plate as series leader Bradley Pocock’s (Bike it/Cosworth Yamaha) bad luck continues as he is out with a broken leg yet again. Lewis Trickett (Suzuki) is only ten points behind Thomspon though and has every chance of getting back in front after being the early leader.
Ben Howell (KTM) failed to make the podium for the first time in the Big Wheeled class at the previous round and had his lead cut to just seven points by Ben Watson (HM plant/Red Bull KTM) who finished third at Canada Heights. James Harrison (Twisted 7 Honda) took second that day and sits 30 points behind Watson in the standings. Liam Garland took the overall victory last time out and will want to do it again to close the gap on the three in front of him and become a title contender, especially as it will be his debut for Proppa.com Honda.
Oliver Osmaston (MX World Honda) got back to winning ways at Canada Heights to extend his points lead in the Small Wheeled class. Todd Kellett was the young man who surprised a few people and probably himself as he took second and looks full of confidence as the result moved him up to fifth. Josh Gilbert (Albion KTM) took third to close in on Conrad Mewse who had a bad day by his standards and dropped points on Osmaston but still holds second in the series. Suzuki’s Danny Lanfear sits in fourth and will want to get his run of podiums back on track.
Taylor Hammal (KTM) is on fire in the 65cc class after taking the victory at the last two rounds. He’s closing in fast on Keenan Hird (KTM) after giving him a 105 point lead after round one! Hird is consistent though and has finished in second place at all three rounds so far. Drew Warren (KTM) has been third the last two times out but will want go two better at Whitby and close on the pair in front of him. Local rider Tom Hume (KTM) will have the support and he’ll need it to keep fifth placed Ryan Vickers on his Cobra at bay.
Fuchs Silkolene 2 Stroke British championship
Mark Eastwood (Eastwood/Wiseco Honda) is on track keep his run of Open Expert championships alive as he leads the way with a 32 point lead over Nathan Parker on his big 500cc Proppa.com Honda with his teammate James Noble in third. Noble will start as favourite as he’s done more laps around the Skelder Bank circuit than anyone. Gordon Crockard and Scott Elderfield (PAR Honda) will have something to say though after going 1-2 at the previous round. Jason Kendrick now leads the way in the junior open class after Daniel Ward had a shocker at Canada Heights. Shayne Headon rounds out the top three.
The 125cc riders made the most of their extra round at Silverstone with some quite brilliant racing. David Willett (Bladez Yamaha) extended his narrow four point lead ahead of Jim Davies (Wulfsport TM) by a further two points with his first overall win since the opening round. Davies netted second ahead of young James Dunn (Suzuki) who continues to mix it with the big boys. Luke Remmer (Maxxis/Henderson/LPE Kawasaki) was blisteringly fast at Silverstone but also unlucky and he’ll be more determined than ever to take the win. Charles Statt (Kawasaki) leads the way in the juniors by a healthy 69 points with his third overall win on the year. Ben Thompson moves into second after a solid third place at Silverstone with Ashley Crossley moving down to third after a nightmare weekend for him.
Round five of the Red Bull Pro Nationals is certainly set up to be a great one, so make sure you’re part of it.
Gates open at 8.30am on both Saturday and Sunday with the action starting at 9am.
The Red Bull Pro Nationals and the Skelder Bank circuit will be heavily signposted with the AA road signs from the A171 into Whitby, you can’t miss it!
