LS Motors Honda rider Leok podiums in Belgium

News Monday 12th July 2010 By Tom Jacobs

Before the summer break, the LS Motors-Honda riders had to take care of business one more time. Currently placed second (Davide Guarneri) and third (Tanel Leok) in the championship the CRF450R mounted duo felt confident going into the third round of the MX Pro Series in Tongeren-Berg.

However riders not only had to face stiff competition on the oldschool natural track, moreover the current heatwave in Belgium provided meteorogical conditions one usually associates with exotic holiday locations!

Tanel Leok posted the third fastest time after the Suzuki duo Desalle and Ramon during the morning session. But far more impressive was the qualifying race of the former Dutch and Italian MX1 champion. Leok grabbed the holeshot and put on a one-man-show leading from start to finish. Van Horebeek was second ahead of Desalle, Strijbos and Guarneri.

The ‘Estonian Express’ repeated his holeshot performance in the opening moto. But Belgian champion Desalle quickly made the pass on Leok. True to form the gritty LS Motors star kept Desalle in sight. Ramon and Guarneri circulated in third and fourth. With just over 10 minutes on the clock on the clock Leok went down in the top section losing precious time in his chase on Desalle. Ramon started to pressure Leok, but the latter defended his position well and came home second. Guarneri capped a solid race off in fourth. Dutch ace De Reuver took the holeshot in the second moto, yet Desalle quickly took control of the race again. Leok started as fourth but was unable to close the gap with the leaders. Ultimately Ramon took the win from Desalle and Leok. Guarneri, second in the championship standings, had started well. Unfortunately the likable Italian ran into trouble with his goggles and hat to settle for sixth.

Tanel Leok (third overall)

"Man, it was so incredibly hot today! In the second race I was really affected by the heat. Frankly, I was not prepared for these temperatures. I had not eaten and drank only water, so I ran out of energy at the end of the day! Still I am happy with the riding itself. Both in qualifying and in the opening moto the speed was good. It was a pity that I crashed in the first moto because I felt that I still had a chance with Desalle. In terms of my overall championship position I did okay today because I took points back on second place. Everything remains possible! "

Davide Guarneri (fourth overall)

"It was not my day. I never really found my rhythm and the lines that I would have liked today. It was not awful either, but it could certainly be better. The first moto was my best race of the day. I started in fourth and that’s where I finished. In spite of the heat I was pumped about the second moto because I felt conditions suited me with the track just been watered when you have to search for grip. I was lying in third when I had a stupid crash where I broke my roll-offs. I was forced to throw my goggles away and by then the track had become dusty again so I had to take it easy. "
