John Hall - Rest in Peace
News Thursday 22th July 2010
As it always would be the news of Australian Enduro legend John Hall passing away was a shock. I woke this morning to an e-mail from old friend Andy Wigan from Transmoto Dirt Bike magazine in Australia with the sad news that cancer had taken Mr. Halls life. I've known John for probably 20 years and he was one of those true gentleman of our sport.
I met John for the first time way back in the 1980's when I was running my own magazine in Australie. Once I started travelling to Europe to the MXoN and ISDE John was always there to support me and give me respect for the work I did in the sport.
For anyone who didn't know John he was a quiet type, but full of passion and he had an amazing vision for the sport. Funnely enough this video below he mentions one of the big races he promoted back in the 1970's. It was the Australian Motocross Championship held at the Foster Park circuit. I remember that even so clearly, well run and in a magnificent area.
Mr. Hall had a lot to do with the way people look at motorsports in Australia and his vision and dedication to the sport made it easier for Australian riders to be noticed on the World scene.
John passed away after a battle with cancer. We lost one of the real class acts and he will be missed so very much.
Rest in Peace mate.
Here is a cool interview from Andy Wigan with John.
