Ramon wins in Germany over Desalle and Roczen
News Sunday 25th July 2010 By Suzuki
Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1's Steve Ramon won a hard physical day of racing at Tensfeld today for the fifth round of eight in the 2010 ADAC MX Masters. The latest instalment of the German Championship took place at the heavy and deep sandy circuit near Lubeck and in warm conditions.
It was a good event for Suzuki as Ramon took overall honours with 2nd and 1st positions in the two motos on his RM-Z450WS as team-mate Clement Desalle was runner-up and won the opening sprint. Rounding out the podium in the MX Master class was Ken Roczen (Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2) on his RM-Z250.
The sand of Tensfeld was seen as ideal preparation for the two Suzuki teams with the Grand Prix of Limburg at Lommel in Belgium occurring next weekend in similar terrain.
Ramon and Desalle fronted the field in the first moto and only hesitancy in dealing with backmarkers in the latter stages of the race caused Ramon to lose a sizeable lead and be passed by Desalle. In the second outing, Desalle made a mistake and sacrificed precious time in restarting his machine. The Belgian charged to fourth but Ramon was able to forage a path past Max Nagl and then keep an impressive Roczen adrift of his rear wheel until the flag.
"Everything went OK and my riding was good," commented the winner. "The sand was heavy so it was hard work out there. I had two good starts and led the first moto but got into trouble near the end with the lapped riders and Clement was able to find a way through. The second race was similar but after Clement had crashed I had to deal with Nagl and then Ken Roczen was running a very good pace so I couldn't slow down. All in all it was a good days racing and good to do a race like this before Lommel."
Roczen raced to a podium position on his Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 RM-Z250 against the bigger 450cc machines in the ADAC MX Masters German Championship with third overall at Tensfeld for the fifth round of eight in the series.
The 16 year old set a blistering speed in the soft and bumpy terrain to register fourth and second place in the two motos; spraying champagne on the podium with fellow Suzuki riders Steve Ramon and Clement Desalle as the Tensfeld rostrum was coloured 'Suzuki Yellow.'
Roczen's first race was inspiring after the GP winner became entangled in a second corner pile-up and then set-about regaining what ground he could. He flew back from a slot of 36th and pushed up to fourth; recording the same lap-times as leaders Desalle and Ramon. Roczen enjoyed a better and drama-free start in the next moto and plagued Ramon in the closing stages after infiltrating the top five. He was second by the time of the chequered flag.
Team-mate Arnaud Tonus finished fifth in both races for a positive showing and built up his speed in the sand for what was a valuable meeting for the German team ahead of the GP Limburg - the 11th round of 15 in the FIM Motocross World Championship - on a similar surface at Lommel - next week.
"It was a great weekend for Suzuki and Ken and Arnaud both did well against the 450s on a track that was hard to ride," commented Team Manager Thomas Ramsbacher. "This was exactly what we wanted before Lommel; just to get back into the feel of racing on bumpy and demanding sand. Tensfeld has a lot of jumps and tight corners so it is not easy. Overall, it was perfect practice."
The sixth round of the ADAC Master series will take place at Moggers on August 15th. Rockstar Teka Suzuki WMX1 will start preparing in earnest for their home Grand Prix and round 11 of 15 in the FIM Motocross World Championship; the Lommel circuit a stone's throw from their workshop and technical base.
Desalle and Ramon are currently second and fourth in the MX1 standings.
