Reed in for MXoN - Aussie team picked
News Friday 20th August 2010
Motorcycling Australia (MA) has announced the team that will represent Australia at the 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations to be held in Colorado, USA on 26 September 2010. Australian Team – 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations:
MX1: Chad Reed
MX2: Dean Ferris
Reserve: Kirk Gibbs
MX3/Open: Brett Metcalfe
Reserve: Jay Marmont
As recently announced, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) regulations stipulate that in 2010 the maximum age for the MX2 class rider is 23 years, meaning that riders born before 1 January 1987 were not able to be selected for the MX2 class. Therefore Ferris’ choice came naturally as the young Australian showed good potential while racing the German Grand Prix this year at Teutschenthal as a wild card and ended in the top three of Australia’s National Motocross series.
The 2009 MXoN was claimed by the USA, represented by Ryan Dungey, Ivan Tedesco and Jake Weimer. Team Australia finished seventh in the 2009 edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations in Franciacorta, Italy. The team was made of Chad Reed, who managed to finish second overall in the MX1 classification behind American Dungey. In the MX2 class Brett Metcalfe finished fifth overall and Michael Byrne could only end 20th overall in the Open category.
Team Australia will head to Denver looking forward to better the seventh place obtained in the 2009 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations edition.
