Sword keeps his chances alive - Maxxis British Champs
News Friday 20th August 2010
The Maxxis British Motocross Championship round at Farleigh Castle, Wiltshire on Sunday 15th August 2010 saw Buildbase CCM rider Stephen Sword take the overall victory scoring two wins and one second place. Swordy, the reigning MX2 British Champion, kept his MX1 Championship title hopes alive with three fantastic rides.
Team mate Tom Church also scored well to finish fifth overall on the day, only a handful of points away from a podium finish himself.
This historic British Championship win was the first overall Championship win for the CCM marque in 33 years.
Swordy: "Leading up to Farleigh, all of us at CCM have been working hard on absolutely every aspect of racing. I`m over my illness now and feel confident and my physical training is back where it should be. I`ve been putting in plenty of time on the bike and slowly but surely my timing is coming back and I`m happy to get my head down and keep working.
The first race win at Foxhills was good but I was disappointed overall as I wanted to be on top of the podium at the end of the day. Bobrychev is riding really well in England at the moment and putting in some great rides in the GP`s, but at Loket (Czecho` GP) last week, I didn`t ride well until the last ten minutes of race two, but this week at Farleigh I started sunday how I left off in Czecho`.
Being fastest in qualifying gave me the pick of the gates. D.T told me Brad Lackey (Ex-500cc World MX Champ`) always started on the end gate on the left but D.T started on the right! I followed Brad`s example and had three great starts. I won the first race after a slight tussle with Brad Anderson but made a silly mistake on the uphill double jump in the woods which cost me the race two win. I was fired up for the third race and won that after a good battle with Bobrychev
My aim is to win the remaining six British Championship races of this season and let Bobrychev make all the errors. I really like the next track at Silverstone and then it`s Hawkstone Park. I know what I`ve got to do and I`m going to give it 100%".
T.C.: " Arriving at Farleigh on the back of a great Czecho` result was good for me. 11th overall at the GP left me confident and hungry to repeat my International form in a British Championship.
I felt really good leading up to the race. I practiced locally and trained a little. We made a few small changes to the bike and I was ready. I did OK in qualifying, finishing 4th.
I had a good start in race one but crashed while following Bobrychev in 4th, I banged my head and tweaked my neck a bit but managed to comeback to a disappointing 9th. In race two I was lying 4th again, this time behind Brad (Anderson) but pushed too hard and span out dropping back to 7th. I finished 5th, taking Swanepoel in the closing stages.
I holeshot race three but was soon passed by Bobrychev and Swordy who were battling. I cruised to a comfortable third. 5th overall but just 4 points off a podium place.
I`m really happy with my 2010 CCM 450 right now. We`ll keep on working hard and hopfully I`ll be on the podium at Silverstone".
D.T.: "The Farleigh result was great and as always it was the tip of the motocross iceberg. The public don`t see what goes on behind the scenes, but this historic result for CCM was only made possible by the many, many hours, days, weeks and months of effort by the whole team.
The mechanics Olly, Ryan have worked tirelessly, often working through day and night to have the bikes prep`ed to perfection. Behind the scenes, Max the team truck driver, Dickie and all the staff at Bolton at CCM have been great and of course never in the spotlight, Gary Harthern, Steve Hyde and Austin (Clews) have been a critical part of CCM`s success both on and off the track.
As a team, we all at CCM have worked hard with the riders Tom and Steve to enable us all to achieve the great results we have seen over the past few weeks and we will all keep working to reach even higher goals.
Huge thanks also to all our sponsors and supporters who make this all possible.
