Grand Prix of Benelux - Top Ten Things
News Tuesday 07th September 2010 By Geoff Meyer
1. Antonio Cairoli and his ride through the pack: What can you say about the Italian hero? He is just magic on a bike and in the sand it’s nearly like poetry. His passion for the sport and the people around him is just amazing. We have a new prince, and he reminds me so much of our King. If he stays in the FIM World Motocross Championship he has the potential to even start looking at Mr. Everts records.
2. Ken Roczen: I know Marvin won a World title, but how fast was Roczen around the Lierop circuit. This is a kid who just looks like one on the bike. Similar to the ballet dancing of Cairoli the German kid is so much fun to watch.
3. Marvin Musquin. A second World title and now working with one of the greats in the sport (Roger De Coster). He’s probably learnt a lot from Stefan Everts, and now it’s time to learn some more from another legend. KTM sure know how to make a rider happy.
4. Lierop circuit: They talk about rough, but man, this place is like a mine field. Riders are looking for ways to get around by actually riding on the outside of the circuit. If you can master this place like Cairoli and Roczen did, then you sure have some serious talent.
5. Josh Coppins: Last Grand Prix in Holland and his last Grand Prix near his home in Belgium. We will miss you Josh, for your fighting spirit, for you amazing experience of the sport and for your always friendly smile. 15 years on the GP circuit, it’s been fun.
6. Joel Roelants and Max Nagl: Two men with similar attitudes and both look to reach that place at the top of the mountain. If the sport gave fighters points for their efforts then these two would be World Champions already.
7. Holland: This is my country now and I don’t care what anyone says, it’s the best country in the World. The amount of times people from America, Australia or any country in the World tell me how much they love Holland. With a 17,000,000 population and still this country is just so well organized. Beautiful ladies, green countryside and always well prepared. Give me 15 GP’s in Holland we would have an amazing series.
8. The Ladies: Here is go again, but Holland has the best looking ladies in the World. A walk around Lierop is like a visit to heaven. A trip into Eindhoven and it just gets better. Long live the Dutch ladies.
9. Marc De Reuver: The sandman is back. I just love this kid, he might not have had a brilliant year, but he came back from near retirement with a solid performance. Let’s hope we see more of it in Italy next weekend and also in 2011.
10. Last but not least the press room. Peter Van Der Sanden does a great job with his crew of people and we are always made welcome. Internet is always being taken care of, a good meal all day long if you want it and smiling faces. What more can a press guy ask.
