Ryan Villopoto to race USGP in 2011
News Saturday 18th March 2011 By Geoff Meyer
Interesting to read that there is a good chance that several leading American riders will line-up for the Monster Energy Unites States Grand Prix. Last year we got to see US based riders Ben Townley, Grant Langston and Mike Alessi come up against the GP riders, and this year it looks like Ryan Villopoto will lead the US challenge.
Leading American journalist Steve Matthes has some news on the United States Grand Prix, set for Glen Helen in May.
"In some USGP news," said Matthes. "Because Monster is now the primary sponsor for the GP series, look for both Villopoto (who rumors say has requested his amateur #615 for the race) and Weimer to race the Glen Helen event here in the beginning of May. Mike Alessi is also scheduled to race it but it looks like teammate Andrew Short won’t be there."
With Villopoto possibly racing and the opening round of the AMA Motocross Championship a week later we might even see more American riders making the USGP their preperation for the AMA series.
What are the chances of Christophe Pourcel looking for a little extra bike time after missing the AMA Supercross series. If he races the American Motocross Championship the USGP would be the perfect race to get rid of the cobwebs.
