Domestic double for Barragan! - Spanish Flyer
News Monday 28th May 2012 By Tom Jacobs
With temperatures up to 35 ° C the going would always be tough in Ponts, but the abundant track watering in the morning and many different lines made things even more complicated. However Jonathan displayed his skills already in qualifying propelling his Dunlop-shod Honda CRF450R to the top of the pile.
Barragan was more than half a second faster than Butron who captured his first ever GP podium last week in Brazil. It was also Butron who led the first race briefly until he fell into. Barragan picked up the pieces and easily raced to victory in the opening moto.
At the finish, Jonathan held a 26 second advantage over Butron and 37 seconds over Lozano. The Spanish crowd saw another inspired outing by the reigning MX1 champion during the second sprint of the day. Until mid-race the LS Honda Racing rider was fighting with Butron for the lead.
When the KTM rider crashed, Barragan could move ahead and race to his second victory of the day. The next Spanish Championship round will take place in El Molar, Madrid on the 24rd of June.
Jonathan Barragan: "Ponts was good for me. The heat and the rugged track made it really hard but everything went okay. My starts were good, and my rhtyhm and speed were fine as well. It was important to catch up in the championship, so I was quite satisfied with both the results and my riding. This gives me another step to build on for the next GP’s.”
