Ryan Villopoto - 2016 Grand Prix's Goal

News Sunday 17th June 2012 By Geoff Meyer

American Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto has a long term plan to race in the FIM World Motocross Championships, possibly in 2016. The MXoN hero wants to experience a little of Europe, and can see his AMA SX and MX career over in three years time.

"My plan is to race three more years in America," Villopoto said on his visit the the Grand Prix of Belgium. "Then I would like to have the experience of travelling though Europe and also racing the GP"s. No top America has ever come over and done it, it's usually the GP guys coming to America or riders from America coming here because they can't get a ride in America. It would be nice to see how I can do over here."

"I am friends with Stefan Everts and spent some time with him on this trip, also visiting his house and seeing his trophies and bikes, that was pretty cool."

With Chad Reed mentioning he might do a GP in preperation for the Lommel held MXoN (possibly riding Lierop GP) and Ryan Dungey riding for the European KTM team the chance of seeing some leading AMA riders racing in Europe in the coming years is more possible than ever before.

We already have Christophe Pourcel , Max Anstie and Tommy Searle back from America and no doubt the strength of the FIM World Motocross Championship will only prosper from these changes.
