Davis Livs interview - Battery Superkauss

The serial Battery Superkauss in Latvia takes place already for the fourth time. This year it was especially interesting, because the winners of total evaluation in all classes were established only in the last stage and the fight was very intensive breath-taking and dramatical, surprising all the spectators, almost 5000 in total.
Can you tell, what was different in the last „Battery Superkauss” season from the three previous?
We are still searching the best model, so every season is a bit different and there is something special in each. We are experimenting a lot, and our experiments are supported by the team bosses, it makes the job easier. The basic tendency – everything becomes more professional, more serious, and resources start to flow in, which is good news for all motocross community.

Partly it seems unbelievable, that this year Lauris Freibergs was dethroned in „MX Pro” class, and in total evaluation Dāvis Līvs took the first place. When Dāvis Līvs defaulted in Saldus, didn’t you have a feeling that nobody could succeed in dethroning Lauris Freibergs until he himself takes part in the race?
This season it developed so that vigour of youth gained an advantage upon experience and tactics. Lauris was let down by the falls in Valmiera stage – if not the falls, we can only guess, how it would be. But I know for a certainty that Lauris still has his powder dry and he is still yearning for victories, so we are waiting the next season, when the curtain drops. Nothing is resolved yet.

What do you think as an organizer – what about the sporting level in the „Battery Superkauss” race this year?
We are stillliving in the memories of Saldus stage, where 6 participants of the World Championship took part. Commentary is unnecessary. It is a very great value, especially for young strivers of Pro class.

What was the aim of Maecenas prize? What did you want to achieve introducing it? And how do you think, did you succeed to implement it?
The aim of Maecenas prize isto popularize motocross through the prism of every one athlete. Popularizing himself the athlete implicitly popularizes motocross in general. As a platform the Supercup races were chosen. The activities took place, but not to such an extent that Maecenas had desired. May be it was not enough explained, may be 4000 euro is too little sum for to motivate the athletes to perform, may be there was just lack of time or knowledge and they were embarrassed to ask advice.

Can you tell about the special moments that could be seen during „Battery Superkauss” races? For example, in Saldus the athletes of Pro class handed flowers to the spectators, what else?
This year the teams have thought very much about their design and activities, so special moments were everywhereJ There was a possibility to win a scooter from the company Vilders, to carry off valuable equipment in Bosch sideshows, to obtain different gifts in Herbalife run, a possibility to be photographed with cheerleaders and to get Battery energy portion for all the day, in MX Ranch stage – to watch backflips of the crazy Alex and Gabi, to take part and win money prizes in Safe Grand Whip competitions, as well as take part in different activities and competitions outside the trace.

Did you succeed to set an aim you wanted to implement before the season 2012?
Our aim isinvariable – we want to assemble 5000 spectators in the stage and we’ll do it, it is only the issue of time. In Saldus stage we were very close to it.

What are your plans for the season 2013? Do you plan to attract the teams of other countries to this serial?
We have already startedthe negotiations with the teams of neighboring countries, the time will show, if these negotiations will be crowned by some touchable result. We will work at the content of the serial for the teams of neighboring countries will have an interest to take part here. The biggest changes in the next season will concern the Pro class. They will have three runs.

What was the key of your success that you succeeded to win „Battery Superkauss" two seasons in succession?
It was stability of the team’s athletes, and certainly the fact – if some of our TOP racers had bad luck, there always was somebody, who could replace him and give his contribution in the total result of the team. Of course, also the fact that every year we try at least for one of the stages to attract some athlete to the team, who has proved himself in international ring, in 2010 Evgeny Bobryshev participated in our team, in 2011 it was Tom Soderstrom, but this year Gert Krestinov participated in two stages.
Why did you choose to take part in this serial and why are you doing it already several years?
When we started to participate in this serial, it was something new and unprecedented in Latvia, and every new product raises interest in people. Nonetheless every year this novel product becomes more popular, and now this serial is obviously the most popular motocross serial in Latvia. So it is very matter-of-course that athletes and team leaders choose to take part in motocross races assembling large amount of spectators, they are popularized also by media. It is not so easy to achieve in Latvia, because there are other national sports, which are difficult to fight with.

How do you like „Battery Superkauss” races?
I think they are good for Latvian athletes. There is enough competition and a lot of spectators. It is always a fun to participate, when there are my fans and supporters. The organization of the races is very good and the traces are well prepared. It would be more interesting, if more athletes from abroad will take part.
