Arenacross Comes Alive in London

News Wednesday 15th January 2013 By Sean Lawless

Arenacross blew the roof off The O2 on Saturday night with 7,500 fans piling into the iconic London venue to watch the UK and Europe’s leading racers and Freestyle Motocross riders. It was non-stop action all the way with top-flight professional racers sharing centre stage with world class FMX athletes and the country’s fastest up-and-coming youth stars.

The big winner on the night was Buildbase Honda rider Adam Chatfield who picked up a cheque for £2,500 with victory in the 14-lap Main Event. “It couldn’t have gone any better,” says 25-year-old Adam.

“I won everything I could win – both my heat races and the final. It’s a great start to the season, I just need to see how I go in the rest of them. I went to America for 10 days before this just to get a bit of riding in and get stuff sorted out and it’s paid off.”

While the action was red-hot on the track, 40ft above the arena floor it was incendiary with two of the world’s biggest Freestyle Motocross talents taking on the best of British. Spanish star Edgar Torronteras survived an early crash to wow the crowd with a polished performance.

“I am so, so, so happy to be here in London,” says ET. “Okay, so I had one crash but that’s not unusual – that’s life. Our sport is dangerous. It’s beautiful too. But dangerous” Norwegian Andre Villa made his world debut on a four-stroke machine and wasted no time in showing exactly why he’s regarded as one of the world’s best.

“This was special,” says Andre. “It was my debut with the 450 four-stroke so I was really focussed here today. I didn’t want to mess up, I didn’t want to make any mistakes. I just wanted to entertain the audience the best that I could. I think we all did a good job and I think the show was great. The people left wanting more which is always the best way.

“It’s Belfast next and I’ve never been there before and I can’t wait to get there and ride my dirt bike and to see if it’s as good as it is here.”

The Arenacross tour now moves to the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, on January 19 before touching down at the LG Arena, Birmingham, on February 2. The final round takes place at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on February 10 with a special afternoon matinee performance.

Tickets start at just £10 for children and £19 for adults with family tickets starting at £49.
