French Motocross championship - Frossard, Larrieu and Aranda

Press release Wednesday 11th March 2008 By Pascal Haudiquert

The French Elite series kick off this weekend in Sommières (south of France), and team CLS got his first podium result as Steven Frossard and Loic Larrieu finished second and third in the MX2 class. For his first MX1 appearance in the French series, Gregory Aranda claimed a fourth position overall.

The track was sunny on Saturday, and both Steven Frossard and Gregory Aranda posted the fastest time of their class in the timed practice session, while Loic Larrieu finished third of his group.

The weather was much worse on Sunday, as the organisers watered intensively the track in the morning, and the rain felt in the afternoon.

The race conditions were terrible for the last race of the day, including the fastest MX1 and MX2 riders. In the MX1 class Gregory crashed unfortunately in all the races, but proved that he was fast as he lead the first two races before those incidents.

Coming back third in the first heat, he was leading the second heat when he had some problems on a jump and lost time. Sixth, he will be strong in the last race where he crashed at the start and came back on a muddy and slippery track from last to ninth.

He is currently fourth in the standings. Leading both MX2 races, Steven Frossard finished twice third, using a standard bike for this race. He gave too much energy during the opening laps, but proved with a strong race in the last race his potential; coming back from tenth to second among the MX1 riders and then challenged the leader to finish second.

He is runner-up in the standings, followed by his team mate Loic Larrieu, the best ‘junior’ kid in Sommières. For his first MX2 race he finished fourth and then twice sixth, a great result in these conditions.

Both Steven and Loic will race the second MX2 round next weekend in Romagné.

Gregory Aranda : ‘ I was stressed before the first race, and we had a great battle with Allier until I crashed. Then I tried to relax but got cramps in my arms, and finished third. I lost my front brake in the second race, but I was leading when my engine had some small troubles on a jump. I crashed in the bareers, lost time and finished sixth with a damaged handle bar. I crashed at the start of the last race, then crashed two or three other times but never gave up to finish ninth’

Steven Frossard : ‘ I had some troubles with my bike during the warm up, and raced with a stock KXF! I had less power and I spent more energy on some big jumps to keep the pace with the leaders, and got twice the third position. The track was worst for the last race and it was better for me, you don’t need so much power against your rivals. My start was not so great but I came back second and then came right behind the leader, but I got mud in my goggles and then decided to secure the second place’

Loic Larrieu : ‘ My first start was not so bad but I was involved in a pile-up, so I had to came back to fourth, which was a good result. I had a bad start in the next race and came back fifth, but made a neutral before the final jump and lost one place. My start was great in the super final, and among the 450 I finished sixth. I was expecting better before I came here, but with this weather it’s not so bad’

Jean Jacques Luisetti : ‘ We are happy and unhappy, it could have been better and worse. We’re close to the leadership in the MX2 class and Greg was fast on a 450, but all had some troubles during the day. We’ll continue to work hard as both championships are long with eight rounds, and we hope that the weather will be better for the following rounds’

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni : ‘ This race was a test for us as our goal is the World Championship, and I’m pretty happy with the results. Our riders confirmed that they have a good speed, now they have to continue to work physically for the GP’s. We got again some experience this weekend, and we all know that we must continue to work hard’
