Taking victory at Mantova after opening his winning bag in Agueda, Yamaha Red Bull De Carli’s Tony Cairoli is now the only GP winner of 2008 to have more than one victory to his name.
Cairoli left his mark on the home soil, starting with Saturday’s Lovemytime Qualifying Award victory and continuing with another heat win on Sunday to top the podium.
With Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tyla Rattray missing his fifth consecutive Lovemytime Qualifying Award win, team mate Tommy Searle took the honours on Saturday and both ended on the podium of the Lovemytime Grand Prix of Italy.
Rattray was second courtesy of two solid heats while Searle rounded off the rostrum; the latter battled it out for victory in the first moto with Ricci Racing Yamaha’s Nicolas Aubin, who won eventually.
Cairoli rode with two damaged ribs and could not complete the mission of snatching the red plate from Rattray, with the leader’s board remaining in the South African’s hands.
