Pyrhonen finds motivation in MX3 class

Press release Monday 23th June 2008 By Harry Van Hemmen

Antti Pyrhönen of Finland has found a new direction for his career. Things were not going to plan when the 2008 MX1 Grand Prix season got underway in Valkenswaard. “The Dutch Grand Prix went okay, despite a few mistakes I scored a satisfying 8 points. I was struggling with confidence and was unhappy about my Grand Prix scores from the Spanish Grand Prix onwards and in fact I didn't see much light at the end of the...

“The 2008 Suzuki bike with it’s fuel injection engine is not easy to handle, maybe with the exception of sand tracks as the opening race. Bellpuig was the most difficult race of my life, in Portugal I got sick and Bulgaria wasn’t much fun either. Then I crashed in the start of the Italian round and bit the sand in Mantova. I was concerning to throw the towel and find a job ... however I realised that motocross is my live and passion. My dream to be succesful has not yet ended. From Mantova I went to my base in Belgium to check my wrist with my doctor and took a rest back home in Finland to think things over.”

“I didn’t want to quit motocross in this situation, I can still be fast and be an important motocross racer. Soon things were coming together as the Finnish Honda importer Brandt helped with new bikes and I talked to Jussi Vehvilainen, an experienced Honda racer, to improve the bikes. Jussi has helped me quite a bit and so have others.”

“So the puzzle became a nice picture. I started practising on a Honda in order to be ready for the June 1st Finnish Championship race at Hyvinkaa which is my home town. Soon I felt confident and happier with this change of my career. I won that home event and now back in Belgium I raced Kester on Sunday and had 2 good moto’s scoring 10 and 12th places.

"I could not expect a lot more as all is new and I had never ridden there. But it's a start on the way to prepare myself for my maiden MX3 race in Markelo Holland on July 5 and 6. MX3 is my new challenge, I believe I can do well. My ultimate target is to enjoy racing again and go for a podium score at the Finnish MX3 race in Heinola, August 16-17.”
