Grand Prix statistics - Coming into Lommel

Press release Tuesday 29th July 2008 By Daniele "Boom Boom" Rizzi

After round ten of the FIM Motocross World Championship, the Leatt Brace GP of South Africa at Nelspruit on July 20, here are the updated season statistics. Continuing his winning streak after Sweden’s second GP win of 2008, AXO KTM Silver Action’s Jonathan Barragan took the third success in Nelspruit, becoming the rider with the most victories to his name this season.

As the Spaniard took his second consecutive win, Teka Suzuki WMX1’s Steve Ramon took his second consecutive Lovemytime Pole Position Award and even won the opening moto, mounting on the eventual podium in third place.

Ramon is closing in on GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel in the Lovemytime standings as he is now just one point behind the Frenchman. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Max Nagl put together two solid heats after holeshotting the first corner both times and he was second overall for the first time in his career, improving his best overall result by one position.

The German is the one who led the most laps in South Africa, with Ramon and second heat winner Barragan coming out only in the final stages. The red plate continues to stay on David Philippaerts’ Yamaha Monster Motocross machine.

With defending MX2 Champion Antonio Cairoli injuring his left knee and pulling out of the remaining part of the season after heat one at Nelspruit, the season will offer a new different finale which started with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tommy Searle winning his third GP of the year.

After eight consecutive Lovemytime Award wins, the last of which was in Nelspruit, Cairoli is likely to see his leadership disappear in the next two events.

After taking the sixth Lovemytime Qualifying Award, Searle carried on to win one heat and the overall on Sunday, as team mate and Championship leader Tyla Rattray took victory in the final moto, ending second on his home GP’s podium.

Yamaha continued to see the podium courtesy of Ricci Racing’s Nicolas Aubin, who mounted on the rostrum for his first time this year despite having taken one heat win in Mantova.
